Anyone Running A Diesel Pusher?

Anybody ever regroove Tires. I have a set of Mich. XZE tires with 45k miles on them and there almost worn out. They say regroovable, I think I may give it a try. Anyone have any experiance running regroved tires.

Tim

I ran a set on my 2500 for about 20k miles. Two of them started seperating so I finally got 4 new tires. I wouldn't run recaps again! They didn't ride as good as new, we very far off balance, didn't last. The tire shop who convinced me to cap my tires sells a lot of caps to guys running in the forest and off road. They work really good for them on gravel roads and not running high speed. I did all the bad things to my caps, drove down the freeway at 83 mph for mile after mile, loaded or empty. Good luck, Paul

Regroving is a thing of the past..........

While they say you can on the sidewall - for liability reasons - NOBODY that I know of does it... ...

There is a differance between regrooveing & recaps, Most all tires can be recaped, but some can be regrooved, I hand regrooved my XZEs about 15,000 ago they worked fine all summer, But I will have new tires before the snow flyes !!!!!! Used a groover for race car tires on mine.

I asked a local Bandag retreader about retreads for the Ford I was driving several years ago. He politely advised me against it. He explained that retreads are fine for commercial delivery service around town but he thought it would be a bad idea for a highway-driven pickup pulling a travel trailer.

Sure, the big trucks use them. But there's one thing to consider: 18 wheel over the road trucks use them on the drive axles and trailer axles but those trucks usually do not have fenders (Canada and some states must now be requiring fenders judging from what I see on the roads). If a tread separates (it only takes one trip down an interstate to confirm that they do separate) on a big truck tire the tread bounces off the bottom of the trailer without leaving visible damage and hits the highway. If one of our Dodges slings a tread, particularly a dually, expensive damage is almost certain. Our dually fenders are pricey and even the bedside on a 3/4 ton would probably be damaged by a slung tread.

Michelins, properly inflated and rotated occasionally are costing me less than $0. 01/mile and that figure is for six tires. Four would cost even less. It's hard to justify recaps with numbers like that.

Each to his own.

I had a friend whose dad was a manager of a large commercial tire dealership in Minneapolis, Mn. He claimed that treads that are found lying along the highway are mostly from original tires and not from retreads. I don't know how true that is.
