Any 1979 "Alien" movie fans...........

Anyone have any comments on this alternator (apparently used as OEM on later jeeps). I have a 1946 Willy's, which for the most part I want to keep stock, but the original generator has crapped out and there have been a few improvements made in electrical components since then. This looks like a nice "plug and play" upgrade kit.

Generator/Alternator

We have finally assembled a quality alternator upgrade kit for all Willys 4-134 four cylinder engines. The kit includes every part required for the job and can be installed without any cutting, grinding, special tools, or permanent modifications to the engine and vehicle.

The alternator supplied is a custom built full sized 14 volt Delco-Remy DELCOTRON SI systems intergrated single wire alternator with a built-in regulator and 5/8" wide pulley. this alternator was OEM on later model Jeeps.

The most important compnent of our kit is our heavy duty alternator mounting bracket. It is installed on the existing holes on the front engine mounting plate, using a stock straight generator adjusting bracket, Additionally this system includes an OEM 5/8" wide fan belt as well as all mounting hardware with grade 8 yellow zinc plated bolts, nuts and washers.

Next, I prolly want to look into brake upgrades.

Ya those Delco's are the best and for your situation the plug and play is perfect. Keep your old generator and parts so you can keep it original down the line if needed. You can probably find a custom rebuilder to rework it. Good luck

Thanks p-Bar. I'll definitely keep the parts. I could live with the original 35-amp generator as rebuilding it would not be a problem, it's just the relay controlled regulator that I don't have a whole lot of confidence in. I'll leave it mounted in the engine compartment for looks.

Dave,

Are you just going to change the light bulbs and such assuming the Jeep is still a 6-volt system??

I think from back in the day that the 6-volt starter worked fine with a 12-volt conversion.

Mike.

Mike,

At some point prior to my ownership, it was converted to 12V. I'm guessing that the starter is still original as I don't remember its voltage when I had it rebuilt (broken starter gear). I do have an old VW bug as well that I converted to 12V and retained the 6V starter.
