ok with what i have now the clucth is not going to work. i am going to be selling the banks box,which i have two of them and i am going to be getting the ttpm. i already have the dd2 and i love them. i talked to peter at SB and he said the O would be fine. i do haul with the truck and i do plan on doing one or two sled pulls a year. chatter does not really matter to me as long at it is kept to a minimal. the rest of the truck is the same as in my signature with the addition of the scotty 2. thanks for the help,

Well the con o is a great clutch and will hold the power you state but when you say sled pulling that scares me. I tell allot of people to buy the con o because it is smooth and will hold a good amount of power but most of these people want smooth and are willing to sacrifice a little so they can pull the Travel trailers with no chatter.

In your case I would go with a con ofe just to be safe, but remember Southbend doesn't really sell these clutches for sled pulling. IMO they are more suited for higher HP trucks that are daily drivers.

mine is a dialy driver and i would do a little pull. mainly its just a country fair with mainly stock trucks i just want to woop up on them. i just want a good all around clutch. i want to do it right the first time and then not wory about it again

I am a SouthBend distributor and the only thing Peter's clutches don't do VERY well is sledpull.



Once or twice on a mild truck MIGHT be ok but any clutch w/a feramic facing(ConOFE or FE) does not like to slip. It doesn't hurt the clutch. The cluch eats the flywheel and pressure plate under sustained slippage.



The clutch usually reseats and recovers but... .



You really shouldn't sled pull with them. they are made to keep the reins on heavy sustained loads while maintaining better than stock pedal and excellent engagement, not accelerate a 44000# sled with an anchor across the length of a football field.

ok so if that is not the right clutch for what i need what kind would you suggest. i have never pulled the sled before but the truth of the matter is that i am at most 2 times a year. the truck is driven daily. what would you recomend.

I think you could probably pull it w/o too much trouble. You should expect to tear something up when you move 50K# with a 22k# rated truck.



Sleds are hell on parts.



A sled pulling clutch is a $1500+ investment(just for the clutch) that is not cost effective on a mild daily driven truck. They do not lend themselves to speed shifting. The discs are too heavy for the syncros to match up gears quickly, so drag racing is severly hindered.



SBC is working on one. Enterprise sells a nice one.



On my truck. . I'd just pull it. I would never tell a customer that it was okay to do so. Any clutch warranty would rightfully be voided as a SBC is expressly not for sledpulling.

ok well i much rather have a southbend anyway but which one. leaning towards the con o but diesel says the FE and Piers says the OFE. i think that Peter would steer in the right direction. he says go with the O
 
The OFE is smoother but the FE is by no means harsh.



The real question is how much power will you put to it?



over 425-450hp really requires an FE. a 450hp truck is relatively mild here lately. stage 3s, exh, a comp, and a turbo puts you there quick.



the real expense comes when you chose one insufficient for the application. There is another $3-400 installing the new clutch and another clutch when you choose wrong.

well the truck is going to remain the way it is. i am selling the banks box and getting the TTPM. i have the DD2 in now and i cant use them because i have over powered the clutch already. i am looking at about 350 to 380 hp at the rear wheels. i dont know what the banks box will actually put out so i cant say how much power i am running now. i know that i will lose some when i go to the ttpm but thats ok. this truck needs to last a long time and i feel like a timing box would help. if i did change something then i might try a larger injector but not for now. the largest i would go is DD3. thanks for all the help i appriciate it.
 
Mark... . I have a South Bend FEW clutch and I can slip it on the freeway (not towing anything). . I am upsizing my turbo for more power. I truck pull and drag race occasionally. What clutch would you recommend?I:confused:

Which clutch for me?

Peter, with the bombs below and towing a 9000# 5vr which clutch would you recommend, the Con O or the Con OFE? TIA Sixpack
 
OFE. I think this is one of the finest clutches peter sells. I have had an FE in my 2001 for 30k miles, and it sure holds up to the abuse i put it through, but it is harsh when trying to back up really heavy trailers. I have an OFE in my 98 12 valve and it is freaking sweet. It holds very well yet is much smoother when moving around the trailer. I spent the money to go to the full 13 inch x 1. 25 con OFE on the 98 because i tow a 15k 5er with it. I have been extremely pleased with it. I have driven the con O but i just cant see getting anything but the OFE. I like the added insurance of having the feramic material on one side, especially if you are towing heavy loads. I will be putting this same clutch in my 92 once the p-pump conversion is complete.
 
I think that I will be looking into a new clutch before to long. I was thinking of the CON OFE Is there any group purchases going on? or does South Bend give us a good brake as it is?
