Been sitting on a 1955r SKS w/ a rebuilt engraving on it. What's it worth? Nice condition and shoots well for 100 yard shots.

What does the 1955r stand for, other than model# ? You have any photo's ?

I sold this SKS Paratrooper last summer w/400 rnds for $450. 00, probably could get twice that now. I didn't get hurt, I purchased it about 15/16 years ago at Dale's Cashaway in Kooskia, ID. $99. 00 for the gun and $125. 00 for 1000 rounds, I added the folding stock later.

I put a sporter stock and some Millett ghost ring sights on mine. Still have it. My buddy traded his on a Mini 30. I tried some 30 round mags but couldn't keep them from jamming. I'll stick to the stripper clips.

Mine is an older model. I believe it was mfg in 1955 and the "r" is for Russia.

I think 1955 or '56 was the last year of Russian production. They started in '44 or '45 I believe. Does yours have a spike or blade bayonet? Older models had the spike and milled receiver and trigger group parts while the later models had blade type bayonets and stamped steel parts.

It probably was closer to 20 years ago, they were dirt cheap. The Sporter stock was a better unit than the folding one I used, but was not available till later. Never had a 30 rnd clip, but the 20's worked great. I hated those stripper clips, but then you do have to be somewhat coordinated... .

That makes sense, mine was a chicom/norinco... something like that.

My early milled Russian has a spike. The blades were on the later model Russians.

JH anyone's guess as to what it is worth today. Saw a mini-14 sell for $1500 on gunbroker... It is crazy out there. I wouldn't sell unless you need the cash or are upgrading. Just my . 02

I sold one gun and regret it. Like Flyin said, if you don't need the money, keep it. However, it's worth what you can get for it. My guess is someone will pay around $800. I think that is nuts, but people are scared. Before the craziness, a nice SKS was still in the $300-$400 range. The AK7. 62 that I got in the late 80's for well under $200 would probably draw at least $1500 now but I couldn't replace it. No way will I sell it.

I thought about flipping this one but after much thought, it will stay. I've only sold two guns in my life. One I regret, the other not so much.

I've been doing some reading about how the SKS can accidentally go full auto or slam fire do to a faulty design flaw. I will keep researching and seek advice from a gunsmith/machinist that I've used in the past before I alter this one.
