Rest stops

Just bought a "clean one owner" '72 Steiger with a V8 CAT engine. I honestly don't know the engine model # but it runs real smooth, no smoke. I really only need to get a couple hundred hours out of it to get done what I need to get done but I'd like do a good maintenance job with it. Any diesel gurus/farmers know what oils/fluids/filters work best with this beast? Any other maintenance advice (articulatin joint, transmission, tires, etc. ) would be appreciated or just a good 'ol Steiger story (if there are any :) )

I had a 1800 Massey which is basicly the same tractor built by Steiger. I think the engine is an 1160 which is the predicsessor of the 3208. Don't overload it or lug it . That engine has a habit of spinning crank bearings. It has been at least 15 years since I had either of these engines so I don't know which is which. To tell the difference between an 1160 and a 3208, one has an inline injector pump and one has a v shaped pump. I hope this helps some. Caterpillar filters usually have larger capacity than the off makes. I have a tractor with a 3408 and couldn't believe how much smaller the Baldwin filters were.

The 3208 was a Cat model number if you got one with 1140, 1160, etc it's probably one of the one's sold by Ford. They painted them with their colors and added those model numbers, but they were still Cat's model 3208... ... .....

A freind of mine put an 1145 in his Dodge motorhome and that lead to our research on those numbers.
