I have an 1989, 12v, stock cummins, 5 speed, a/c, 4x4, 212k miles, looks like new injector pump sometime in its life. I bought it when it had 170k. It was running fine, she sat for about a week. Jumped in started ok ran into next town 8 miles stopped at moms house. Would not start, no smoke, cranks over great. She rode on a rollback home. I have voltage to the actuate to run solenoid (or shut off solenoid). So I jumped and replaced the solenoid thinking it was more than likely the problem. Still wont start. I am going to start to follow the Diesel supplement manual trouble shooting list and start to crack open the fuel line at the lift pump and go from there. She was running fine before this, so Im thinking (hoping) that its something simple. As some of the postings said tomorrow I will check to make sure that there is fuel in the tank, gauge indicates 3/8 tank. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do the obvious - verify fuel flow from fuel pump to the injection pump, and crack an injector line to verify fuel from the IP - after that, the rest is pretty basic...

Did you check the actual shut off solenoid on the IP? On top of the pressure head, above and towards the engine from the injector lines. If you have power there, pull the wire, turn the key on, and touch the wire to the stud. It should click. If not, you have a bad solenoid. You can pull the plunger and spring out for a temporary repair, and use the lever on the side to shut it off. If it does, then you need to look for other issues.

Thanks for the replies. I did not get to look at it this weekend. I will recheck the shut off solenoid as suggested, and then crack open the lines looking for fuel.

I have fuel in tank. Shut off solenoid is working ok. Cracked open the line going into the IP, I have fuel going into the IP.

I had fuel coming into the IP, found not enough fuel pressure and volume coming from the lift pump. Changed the lift pump, now she starts and runs fine.

Thanx for the help.
