1989 D350 won't start, injection pump??
I have a 1989 D350 CTD farm truck with 68K that has a going problem!
Trucks are also like people!!!
The owner said it stalls as if the fuel is shut off and is very hard to restart. He usually tows it to start. The owner drove it up to me and it stalled as he slowed to turn into my driveway so it was pushed up to the garage where I did a bit of troubleshooting. He said if he could have kept it revved up it wouldn't have stalled.
He said it has good power when running.
We cracked a couple injectors and there was good flow but it would not fire.
Today I continued to troubleshoot and did the following
Removed air inlet, turbo Ok
Cranks over Ok, has good compression.
Checked the electric fuel solenoid & could hear it clicking as power was turned on & off.
Removed the fuel pipe from the injection pump and connected a hose so I could check the lift pump. There was good flow and no air bubbles.
Reconnected the fuel pipe and primed the system again.
Cracked injectors #1, 2, 3 and had good flow (squirts) with key on & very little with key off.
Tightened injectors but no fire.
I had some good used 12 valve injectors so I installed an injector on the #3 line bleed it, tightened it then cranked it. There was no injection
My diagnosis is a bad injection pump.
It's an old truck low miles and moisture has damaged the pump.
Does anyone agree/disagree??
Any suggestions
If you concur where would you suggest I send it?
I live in Western Mass zip 01247.
Thanks
Tim
