Test your CPS. Here is how.

Black/blue tracer is the sensor ground wire. It should OHM close to zero to the battery ground.

Tan/yellow tracer is the 8 volt power feed to the sensor. The voltage regulators on the PCM's are kind of loose. This voltage can vary around some.

Gray/black tracer is the signal wire. If the sensor is on a smooth section of the balencer there should be little if any voltage showing. When the sensor is on one of the air gaps it should show around 5 volts.

It sounds like a major cluster $%&* How did Dodge do it in the late 70's and early 80s when they had the Perkins or what ever engine that was ?

They used the old style trashey electronic regulator that every one uses to bypass PCM controls now a days. I didn't like those regulators when Dodge first came out with them. Age has not improved them eather. If you use one of those regulators keep a spare in the glove box. The after market replacement regulators have a shorter life span than the
orginal Dodge regulators did. Those weren't worth being proud about eather.
