1992 A/C problems/Questions

I got a 1992 club cab 4x4 diesel that has been converted to 134a and I have charged it and cleaned the evaporator box and pulled out the cycleing tub and it gets down to 60degrees on the highway at the coldest and goes up when i idle for a minute of two. I talked to a local shop they think a new dryer and vacume pump out the air in the system might help. Anyone know if this will help! cause it is hot

What are the pressure readings? If you didnt charge it up engough that could be the problem. If the pressures are way off then you could have a plugged orifice or somthing.

where exactly is the orifice at cause i have the right charge I am sure of that

I was having just about the same problems with the a/c not blowing cold, although mine is not converted to R134 ive just been using freeze12 which is artificial R12. So as of last week i replaced the dryer and expansion valve, pulled a vaccum on the lines and filled it back up with freeze12 and it now blows at idle around 32 to 34 degrees, which is alot better than it was before . Ive heard that R134 doesnt do very good as far as cooling goes in these generation trucks so it might be worth a try to convert it back to R12 or Freeze12... ... . hope this helps... ...

Ok, Freeze12 is a cheap alternative buying the real R12, i went down to my local carquest auto patrs and picked it up for about $13 per 12 oz. can. im sure other parts stores should carry it , so i would try there... ... ... oh yea , its made johnsens... .....

Your expansion valve is probably getting sticky/bad. My truck gets warm sometimes, but usually works good (40deg or less at duct) on 134a. I think my expansion valve is trying to stick everynow and again. I kinda wish these things had orifice tubes. Oh yeah, a tip that seems to be helping mine a bit, get some of the cork tape stuff and put it on the capillary tube that is not slid into the pipe to insulate it. Seems to help with it cycling properly.
