You are correct, Serro also had some other factories, but I believe the Irwin plant was the only one they made the RV's at. You may also recall, sadly, the plant burnt down and Serro never got back into the RV and camper business - a shame since the campers have a cult following similar to Airstream and the Scotty dog is an iconic symbol. In January 1992, Trailer Life magazine called the Dodge Cummins Scotty's the most fuel effecient RV's on the road - averaging 20 MPG (if anyone has a copy of the magazine, I would like to purchase). Their primary competition was the Toyota based Class C's - ever try to pull a full-sized car/trailer with a Toyota RV and its' 22R equipped 4 banger? The Scotty could. Scotty trailers are still being made, but the name was sold to another company, they are the current manufacturers. It is my understanding Mr. Serro was the first to build a diesel Class C RV, he used the Dodge Cummins since he also had a Dodge dealership. I wish I could get more of the history and background, especially since this is an interesting historical footnote to the Dodge and Cummins story. If any of your neighbors ever worked at the plant, I would be interested in corresponding with them. Thank you!

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone off hand that worked there but I will ask around. I'd like to know a little more about the history myself. The former plant site can still be seen from the road after it burnt. I think they moved in to Mt. Pleasant for a little while after the fire, but I can't remember for sure.

Correct again, you have an excellent memory, they did move to the Mt. Pleasant location. To add a little more intrigue to the Serro Scotty and Dodge Cummins story, there are conspiracy theories about the cause of the fire. Some I have spoken with think the fire was suspicious and was done to get the Serro's out of the trailer/RV business. I don't subscribe to such theories, but I have always wondered why a company with such a great reputation/fan base would simply walk away from the trailer/RV business.

Do you recall when Scotty starting using the Dodge for its' RV's? I ask because I have seen at least one historical timeline stateing Scotty started their RV business in 1990, but I have never seen a Scotty earlier than 1992. I would imagine if anyone has a 1990, they have a rare vehicle. I am pretty certain, although I need to confirm, Scotty was first to offer a 4WD Class C RV as well - a bug-out vehicle before bugging-out was cool. I know you could have gotten a Scotty in a V10 and Cummins version. They also coverted Dodge Dakota's into RVs - a very direct shot at the Toyota's of the time.

I don't recall exactly when they began RV production other than it being in the early '90's. My father worked in Pittsburgh from '61 until '94 when he retired and drove by there 2x daily. I give him a call tomorrow and ask him if he remembers when things started at that plant.

It has the 1st generation diesel turbo
Hi 1992 Scotty Diesel RV. It has 10754 miles.
The low mileage is correct, was/is a concern because the Scotty sat so long.
We have spent about $4k to insure it runs well.
Had it up to 75 mph the other day, ran very well
Real solid
