You are correct, Serro also had some other factories, but I believe the Irwin plant was the only one they made the RV's at. You may also recall, sadly, the plant burnt down and Serro never got back into the RV and camper business - a shame since the campers have a cult following similar to Airstream and the Scotty dog is an iconic symbol. In January 1992, Trailer Life magazine called the Dodge Cummins Scotty's the most fuel effecient RV's on the road - averaging 20 MPG (if anyone has a copy of the magazine, I would like to purchase). Their primary competition was the Toyota based Class C's - ever try to pull a full-sized car/trailer with a Toyota RV and its' 22R equipped 4 banger? The Scotty could. Scotty trailers are still being made, but the name was sold to another company, they are the current manufacturers. It is my understanding Mr. Serro was the first to build a diesel Class C RV, he used the Dodge Cummins since he also had a Dodge dealership. I wish I could get more of the history and background, especially since this is an interesting historical footnote to the Dodge and Cummins story. If any of your neighbors ever worked at the plant, I would be interested in corresponding with them. Thank you!
