Are you talking about the maintenance required light? It comes on at certain mileages. If so, then remove the instrument cluster bezel or whatever you call it. There are some screws on the top and one screw under the hazard flasher switch on the left and another under a blank cover on the right. Then there is a small black slide switch on the lower right hand side. Just flip it and that resets the light. I know because my dad has a '91 and I had to buy a service manual to figure it out.
When I started to remove the screw from under the blank cover on the right I noticed the switch further back. Have your dad check his, he may not need to remove the instrument cluster.
You're welcome. Dads truck has about 135K on it now, at 120K when the light came on the service manual said to simply remove the bulb from the cluster. His is a plain jane 2wd base model with nothing on it, he bought it without a radio or rear bumper. He has never had a single problem with it execpt for O2 sensors every 40K miles and U-joints at 80K, he still on the original brakes and clutch!!
