Txredneck: SAT TV question

Sun Valley Parkway - Phoenix, AZ Area

Hey everyone my uncle has a 93 W250 w/a 360. The engine is blown, and he has found one in a 97, and wants us to do the swap. I'm concerned that this wont be an easy swap like we had hoped. I'm pretty sure his truck is fuel injected, but are the injectors different between a 93 and 97? Will his computer control the new engine? Not used to doing swaps in newer trucks, so any help is appreciated!!! Thanks

The '93 should be a magnum motor. If it is, then just use the tb and intake and sensors off of the '93 on the '97 motor. If the '93 motor is a TBI non-magnum, then there could be some trouble.

How do you tell if its a Magnum motor(the 93)?

the mangum (MPFI) engines will have 8 injectors located on the manifold. A non magnum can be carbed or have a TBI injection (2 injectors mounted in the throttle body).

The magnum was introduced in '93 so it should be a mangum. The biggest differences in the 2 motors will be that the '93 has the EGR system, and the 97 will not, which is why the easiest way is to take the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, and EGR pieces and electronics off of the '93 and swap onto the '97 motor.

While you have the intake off, replace the plenum gasket on the bottom of the intake. The latest gasket is a metal instead of fiber. It eliminates the gasket sucking in, and the subsequent oil usage.

I dont think we are even going to mess with it. If any of you know anyone selling an older 360 let me know, we might be interested.

The later model 360 Magnums are not a easy interchange for the 93 and earlier trucks if yours is fuel injected. The newer motors utilize a different intake and they will not interchange with the older motors. The cylinder heads on the Magnum engine is where the main difference lies with the interchange. now,if your truck is carb equipped you can buy a aftermarket intake to fit most any four barrel to do the change. I did some checking with a friend of mine who owns a salvage yard here in town who specializes in Mopar stuff and he has told no one he knows has done a interchange with those years of motors due to the amount of work involved. I have him looking to see if he has a low milage early truck 360 for you and he will get back with me tommorrow with a answer... . Andy

Thanks Andy I appreciate it. It's all up to my uncle from here, we told him that the swap with that other engine wouldnt be feasible.
