I just completed (well, almost) converting my 1991 F350 from a gas job to 1993 VE equipped 1st gen. I am having some issues though. Yesterday, I took it for its first drive after letting it sit and idle in the driveway for about half an hour. I went around the block once without issue, and then it started losing power and eventually died, almost like its losing its prime. I could start it back up after pumping the lift pump, and was able to go about 50 feet again before it happened again. Did this about 3 times before I gave up and towed it home.

Background info:

In tank pump stripped and extended to utilize factory lift pump

5/16 lines from tank to pump, with a clear strainer in line before the lift pump (verified fuel there during these issues).

Could this be an issue with the shutoff solenoid or the lift pump? I am getting correct voltage to the solenoid.

Thanks for the help, really want to get this thing driveable so the wife can have her car back!

Take the fuel solenoid off. Under it is a spring and a plunger. Remove the spring and plunger. Reinstall the fuel solenoid. Then test drive. If the same problems happen. Its most likely on the fuel delivery side.

BTW You will need to use the manual fuel cutoff lever to shut the engine down with the spring and plunger removed.

I see a few issues , you should be running 3/8 hose , are you running plastic or rubber line ? , if plastic check the O rings also have you checked the filter to make sure you don't have junk in the tank ? I had a tank that had been liened and went into the filter is your lift pump good hook a 12v to the fuel shot off to the batt

Thanks for the help guys! I've gutted the fuel solenoid by removing the spring and plunger, just going to run a manual shutoff now. Also going to be installing a quality lift pump and 3/8 line from front to back, hopefully this will solve the issues. I'll report back after these changes. Unfortunately, my starter beat itself to death so I'm waiting on a replacement and couldn't test this initial fix. Oh the joys of a conversion.

Ok, I'm up and running. Took it for its first semi-successful test drive last night. Put about 10 miles on her and it shut off on me again just as I was pulling into the driveway, spitting sputtering and dying as it has in the past.

So far, here's what I covered:

3/8 fuel line from the tank to the lift pump with clear in line filter (no crud in it)

OEM lift pump from Genos
New secondary filter
Fuel shutoff solenoid plunger/spring removed
I modified my fuel cap so it is now vented as well.

Now, I decided to drive it into work today, about 10 miles, and had no issues whatsoever. I'm kinda stumped on this one... I'm almost afraid to drive it thinking its going to act up at any time. On the other hand, II think I'm going to be needing that 3200 governor spring very soon, this thing is awesome when its running right!
