I've got a freind that has a '93 CTD with an auto trans. The trans was rebuilt by the previous owner about 6,000 miles ago. His flex plate is now a two piece "scrap plate". Since I am a manual transmission guy I am looking for some advice.

I thought I remember that 2nd Gen flex plate will fit and work on a 1st Gen. Can anyone confirm this?

In checking he has found a billit flex plate and torque converter at Sun Coast for about $1300 and will probably buy this but Sun Coast is almost 2 weeks out due to their CNC being down.

He uses his truck in his business and is now using a Ford gasser. BTW he is towing a 6000 lb trailer and the Ford can barely keep up in areas he has to work.

Any advice will help.

Bob,

This came up a while back and one of the issues that MAY cause this is misalignment of trans to eng, eg missing dowel sleeves or debris btw trans and eng etc. Might want to search flexplates a bit. Now I'm a manual trans guy but this . 02$ was potential to A/T's also. They posted a pic of the 2 pc flexplate too.

2nd gen flexplate is the same as 1st gen, only it is shotpeened for strength. I have run one for a few years in my 93 W350. Probably no issue with alignment, the 1st gen flexplates are a known weak point. No real reason to go billet, unless massive upgrades are coming, as the non-lockup trans will slip and absorb a lot of the stress the higher HP newer trucks put through there locked up convertors.

Thanks for all the input guys - much appreciated! He has decided to go with Sun Coast and their billit flex plate and billit torque converter.
