After reading my TDR # 60, under the "Technical Topics", the "Deja Vu all Over Again" article I was all excited. I'm sold!

I want the Cummins 230HP/605Torque Uprate Kit for my '95.

What is the part number, so that when I go to my local Cummins, I can sound like I know what I am talking about.

The kit worked very well, lots of power no smoke but very pricey, good mileage.

It consisted of injectors, injection pump and wastegate actuator. I an not sure if it is still available, for a good number of years you could even pick it up from Dodge.

Bob

IIRC the waste gate actuator and the injectors where the same as the 215hp engine, just a little different calabration on the pump.

Snoman102 is correct on the kit p/n There are 4 kits left at CECO warehouse . The inj are form the 230 hp engine , the turbo actuator is from a 215 Dodge and the fuel pump is a special calibration code for this kit. Nice kit but WAY iver priced. Shadrach

ya it is a little over priced but when you peice it out its only a couple hundred more. Here the price runs $4658. 00. And yes you can get more power for less, but the power is not the same.

how so? I mean, yeah, it comes with an injection pump, but if you've already got a 180 or 215 pump, I don't see how it could really do anything they couldn't.

NOT worth $4500 no matter how you slice it!!!!!

at ONLY 230hp, there's no reason to upgrade injectors, even on a 160 pump IMO. That's where you run into stumbling/etc. w/ the smaller pumps.

your right the only way i would go about getting one is if i already needed a new pump or i REALLY wanted power with no smoke. The pump's are different. the 180 and 215 pump can't do the same exact as the 230 because you can't change the rate of injection, that is determined by the pump internals. I am not say he should go 1 way or another, just that they are 2 differant ways of adding power.

The kit runs VERY clean under all conditions. It is much nicer driveability than just a torque plate, but for most people the price makes it less attractive.

Bob

Someone who wants quality power delivery and clean operation with their HP boost could probably get the same results for far less by pulling their pump and taking it to a reputable injection shop with the cam plate they intend to run. I'm not talking a place that just checks cylinder balance and flow, but runs through the whole procedure to Bosch specs with a stock plate, then installs the performance cam plate and finalizes adjustments to that plate. As I understand it there are 27 separate adjustments/calibrations that can be made on a P-pump, and doing it up right can make a significant difference. The common practice of just throwing in a cam plate and shoving it all the way forward is the crudest method to go about pumping up power, but for most of us it's all that's needed to put a big :D on your face.

well i can tell you that in my pump book under the "make from" section the do not show a 230 pump into a 180 or visa versa. so i would say that yes the cams are different. Damn if you can get 400hp smoke free, pass emissions, AND have a warranty. Than you my friend need to work for cummins. Cus they must just be retarded!

news flash, 12v's are no longer under warranty!

the 180 pumps and 215 pumps use the same cam...

Cummins is held to tighter emisssions regulations than the end consumer. Many states have no testing at all. Those that do usually have an opacity test.

are you a parts counter guy?
