Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Engine is out, what should i do?

I have a 94 ram with a 160 pump. Im interested in replacing the stock 160 with a 215 pump, but it would be nice to know which pumps are on what years and what is compatible. Can a 97 or 98 p7100 work, or are they not mechanical?

the 96-98 p7100 will fit any year. 94-95 auto have the 160 pump 94-95 5sp have a 175 pump and the 96-98 autos have a 180 pump. 96-98 5sp have the 215 pump (california 5sp trucks have 180 pumps).
 
why do you want to cange the pump?



All you need to do is change the components such as the fuel plate to get the hp you want on less I'm forgetting somthing the pumps are pretty much all the same just different setups in them.

Ture the pumps are pretty much all the same and any one pump could be made into another but cost (parts, installation, and calibration) would certinly be a factor that would influence a person to purchase a complete pump vs. piecing one together.
 
The 160 pumps have smaller cams than the others and are limited for that reason. BUT a 3k RPM kit added to the 215 injectors you already have will transform the truck. Some 181 delivery valves (you can probably find cheap used take outs) will help smooth out the roughness the 160 pump has around 1,100 RPM. If you really want to be cheap and mod the heck out of it, here is an interesting thread about home grown P7100 mods.



If the pump has a lot of miles on it, I recomend sending it to a good shop (PDR, Enterprise, etc. ) and have it balanced and turned up while on a stand. They will grind a plate for you and you can sell the #10 plate you have.



Also, the #10 is kind of small for that pump, I ran a #5 for several years (some towing) and it worked fine. You will need to make trans upgrades, it will slip.

3 or 4K's and a #5 or #6 plate would be a nice combo on the 160 pump!



I'll agree here too! It would be hard for me to spend pump shop money on a 160 pump, now if you found a 215 for say $600-900 and it was in good shape sending it too a shop for a turn up would be a good thing.



I have a bud that found a 215 pump someone wasn't using an bought it for $500... ..... yea I know! He then sent it to Industrial for a turn up were they did just that with a #6 plate, 4K's and some pump stand time then had me install it. I was amazed at how hard that pump fueled. Is it brand new, nope but it works good. One the other hand it does need to be re-built at some time as it does have a little bit of slack inside.



To date it has made 611 #2 only with my setup and stock 370's. I do feel that 650 is not out of reach and definitely now with the I. I. EDM's I have.
