I am the proud owner of a mostly stock 1994 2500, 4x4, 5-speed, 3. 55 geared beauty. I've owned it for the last 10 years and only ever did normal maintenance work. As it sits now: No muffler(with a poor muffler shop 3" exhaust), K&N air filter in the stock box, OEM replacement clutch (Rear main went out). :{

Later this spring I would like to (finally) wake it up a bit. I am going to add a 50psi boost gage and pyro from Geno's first, then what do you recommend? I am at 175hp now, is 250hp too much to ask from stock the injectors / turbo / clutch? :confused:

I don't wanna go wild, but my wife's TDI pulls better it seems. :{

Thanks!

I agree with JKouzez. The 3k gsk and a plate will get you there. I did all that to mine and the clutch was fine. My turbo didn't let go untill I got to around 350hp. Have fun!

Eric

how on earth did you leave it stock for 10yrs?!?!?

put a , #10, #0, or #100 plate in it, a 4k GSK, and a clutch in it (and gauges of course) and you'll wonder why you left it alone for so long...

Forrest

Okay, guys I'm not that bright, could you tell me what "3k GSK" means? :confused:

For 10 years I didn't want to mess with it because it was the "daily driver," now it's the "toy!" Oo.

Thanks again.

3000 rpm govenor spring kit, it'll allow your engine to rev up to around 3000-3200 rpms. The GSKs work well with a #10 plate, but I know theres a few out there it doesn't work with.

I'd echo what the others have said; plate, GSK, and guages.

Nathan

PS: Welcome to the slippery slope of BOMBing

Man, you have a lot of read to do. HEHE. I was in the same boat last year.

The guys are right, about what to do. I would get a #10 plate even though they aren't rated for the 175 pump. You can slide the plate up to get just as much power and you can make the power come on very smooth. Then later if you really want brute power, search around for specs on grinding your stock plate you took out and that plate will be free to have more power. I would also address the Dowl Pin also if I were you if you haven't already. Run a search on that. Also, I would check the timing to see if it is in spec.

www.tstproducts.com has the GSK and fuel plate with boost elbow and all you need. You are going to crap your pants when you get those things done to your truck and drive it for the first time. You'll be mad at yourself for not doing it 10 years ago.

Cast Out Those Evil Thoughts of Horse Power and Improved Gas Mileage

First Things First

Before beginning…you must first contemplate the addictive path you are about to embark. Once you have decided that 350 rather then 250 horse power is a healthy addiction and realize that there is a true potential that you might skip a family vacation for of a Sweet A** set of twins then you need to start with the basics.

General things that you can do to insure proper operation:

Check the air intake system for leaks, inspect the hard piped turbo boost line from turbo to AFC housing, Lock Tight (blue) all of the bolts on the front and oil pan covers (if leaking). The turbo boost line is hard piped on this model and has a tendency to rub through at the exhaust manifold. nothing like running in valet mode for five years.

I replaced mine with flexible tubing held in place with zip ties. String the tubing along the coolest path possible.

Next, Fix the Dowel Pin and adjust you timing from 15* to 16*. Don’t forget to Lock Tight every thing when reassembling.

Drop in the fuel plate (#10 slightly forward), a set of 3000 rpm gov springs, and boost elbow.

Than hold on... cause your have just entered the 250 hp range.

You will need a new clutch so start saving. I just replaced mine @ 190,000 and it runs good.

Next on my Christmas list are a set of 370 injectors, a hybrid 35/40 turbo, and Big Honking Air Filter (BHAF). Trying to get to the 350 hp range.

Good luck and happy bombing.
