Its a buddy of mine he has a 0 plate that is slid forward. Has an EGT but not a boost gauge. It runs (did) great lots of power! The way he talks was like the next time he drove it it ran just about like it did stock??? It doesn't roll smoke like it did before while it was building boost. I felt of the boot right at the air horn & revved it up & can feel it swell, sounds like the turbo is working OK. I wondered if the governor arm could be hanging up or even be hitting under the plate??? Thats the only thing I can guess right now? What would the AFC cause it to do? Let me know what you guys think, I told him I'd take a look tomorrow. Thanks!!

If the afc isnt moving out of the way (8lbs boost I think) it wont allow the gov arm to hit the plate, maybe the fuel shutoff solinoid isnt lifting up all the way either, not allowing full fueling. Let us know what you find though

more info

I did a search & it sounds like AFC could cause what his truck does. This is not intermentant, its like somebody swapped his plate out for the stock one back in!! It runs fine still, just runs like stock, which is bad!! I guess I can take the afc off my truck & try it on his & see what happens.

Check and inspect air line that goes to the AFC housing. AFC housing is what you took off to pull the plate out of the pump. If yer lacking smoke this is common.

Make sure fuel shutdown solenoid is traveling its maximum stroke. They go bad often. Or if bumped around they can give some headaches. Check wires and connections.

If that don't cut it. Try to measure fuel pressure. Should be around 18psi idle 30psi 2k rpm.

As long as yer under da hood. Check and inspect boost boots from turbo to intake. Its best to just tighten them up, even if they don't look like it need adjusting.

I did check around the boots when he dropped by to see if I knew what could be wrong. it was already dark & I couldn't get it in my shop right then. I will check some stuff tomorrow evening. Will the shutoff travel far enough for it to start but cause a fueling problem??

Slipped timing will do that. If it's not the AFC and the fuel solenoid pulls up ok then have your timing checked.

Like JeffH said, if the afc doesn't get the right amount of pressure from the turbo via the boost line, then it won't properly meter the fuel into the engine. Also, the addition of a boost gauge will make future troubleshooting easier.

Well, I checked the intercooler boots, Gaskets under the air horn, hard plastic line to the afc, took the afc off, it slides easily with just a little pressure. Checked the elbow that the plastic line screws in at the manifold. & the shutoff seems to be pulling up all the way. All seems ok. Put it back together & it seems to run good now!?!?!
