My newly aquired 95' seems to shift erratic. If I drive in town it seems to go into overdrive for a few sec, and then back out over and over. Same on the highway. I am not sure if this is the lockout going in and out or the actual overdrive. It almost feels the same with OD disabled so I would just guess it is the lockup.



Also sometimes it does not shift into OD, you have to play with the pedal a little. Is there some kind of sensor that feeds throttle position to the PCM?
 
The TPS is on the linkage where the throttle and cruise control cables attach. It is the thing that looks like of like a hockey puck with an electrical connector on it. This is toward the front of the injection pump on its side.



The TPS is an old problem with these trucks. There are a lot of possible solutions to it. Ranging from giving the shaft a good dose of contact cleaner to replacing it completely. Look here for one discussion of the problem:
