1996 7100 P-Pump

Do any of the senior members have a recommendation for a supplier of good quality 7100 P-Pumps? The truck has the 47RE automatic transmission.

We’ve all been running ULSD for the past 13 years. What’s wrong with your pump? Any certified Bosch shop can repair most any issue with your pump without replacing the entire pump. The P7100 is very durable when properly maintained. The pump on my truck has over 500K miles with no issues. I think Gary’s pump is well over a million, maybe close to two.

According to my diesel mechanic the pump plungers and cylinders are out of spec. It appears BD in Canada will be re-manufacturing it.

What in the world could bring you to that conclusion? Could it be internet myths? There certainly isn't any scientific evidence that shows ULSD lacks lubricity, but there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of marketing articles and that hint the maybes and mights of not enough lubricity additives being added to the fuel you get from the pump. I've had a spare p-pump stored in my garage for years, knowing that someday my pump will wear out. Hasn't happened yet. When it does it won't be because of ULSD.

There isn't always an explanation why a part failed preliminary.
Thats the reason for new cars warranty.

Well Austin Fuel Injection after saying they had a good P-pump core on the shelf to reman to stock, ended up ordering and drop shipping from another company in Indiana to my mechanic. Now the engine idles at 850 to 900 rpm and will not adjust to the normal 700 rpm idle. More to come.

Idle speed adjustment should be done at operating temp, in gear and AC on. The FSM calls for 750-800. I keep mine at about 850. Cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter while in stop and go traffic. Is the mechanic adjusting rpm with the linkage or correctly by adjusting the idle speed bolt?
