My 1996 is leaking fluid at between pwr strg pump and vac pump and using pwr strg fluid. I am assuming I need a new pwr strg pump. Any suggestions on brands of remans I should look at????? I do not think rebuilding mine is for me since I will not know tolerances and such of moving parts. Thanks for any help. T

Are you sure you're using P/S fluid? Oil leaking from the seal between the Vac pump and P/S pump is very common and not a difficult fix. Several places to get a reseal kit. Years ago I got mine at http://www.fixinrams.com/ but Geno's has them now. Probably where I'd go.

This was a pretty good thread on it:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com...t-the-vacuum-pump-or-the-power-steering-pump?

Not sure if I am replying correctly but your comments are great. I read the thread you recommended and I think I am off to the races. Thanks for your help. T

Forgot this part. I did not know I had a leak until the pump started making noise. I added fluid thinking that with about 250,000 miles it was NORMAL to use some. But then I soon needed to add more when the noise came back. So at least twice I ran low on fluid with the pump starving for fluid. I am thinking I might have damaged the pump internally running on low oil. This is why I was thinking of a reman pump to cover myself if I have damaged internal moving parts. Also I am very confident I have been using ps fluid. But maybe changing to synthetic fluid might help or solve problem (from your referenced thread).

Thanks again for your help. T

Reman pumps from the parts chains are iffy at best. I went through 5 in one year. The Saginaw pumps have been around for decades, there is one on my '67 Chev. As a result, there isn't any way to determine which pressure fitting components are installed in a rebuild, or how close to maximum tolerance the bearings are in when it is put on the shelf. My choice is either a new OEM pump or a http://www.genosgarage.com/product/BORG-800328/power-steering-pump.

Thanks for the reply-after looking around and with this info I think I will be going with the Geno's/Borg pump. could not find new OEM.
Thanks again T
