Oo. My 1996 dodge diesel trnasmission hangs up frequently going from 3rd to 4th. transmission has been gone through and is OK and the torque converter has been replaced, but it still hangs up. Has anyone had the same problem and found the cure?

The automatic transmission frequently will not shift until after I back off some on the speed (aprx 40 mph), then it takes a few seconds more before it shifts. Other than that the temperature is normal and the truck is running like a top. No oil burning, no smoking, and a lot of power. This shifting problem does not occur every time the transmission shifts and it does not matter if the engine is hot or cold. Any ideas?Oo.

found solution

After the transmission had been taken apart and put together 3 times, my transmission mechanic contacted Chrystler Corp. And via, via found out that the groove on the inner seal on the front clutch drum was cut too deep during manufacturing. There is an oversized seal available which fixes this elusive problem. It is manufactured by Transtec. If anyone out there has the same maddening problem I hope this can help them as well. Thanks everyone for your input. Vallen
