I have a 96 and have recently recieved a headlight switch for a 98 and on truck the switches are different. Wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram or even knows if I can wire it in there or not. . Thanks, Marc

I'd loose the switch from the '98 (sell it in the classifieds section or on eBay... . ) and get the updated headlight switch for your truck.

The updated switch comes with all sorts of neat stuff to upgrade the wiring and includes a relay to help spread the load off all the lights in the truck... .

I don't have a part #... . but Chrysler didn't hit the debit card too bad when I bought mine a year or two ago.

It took some time to solder up everything, but it was worth it after seeing one OEM headlight switch melt and nearly light my truck on fire.

Search around on this site and/or dodgeram.org - I think there's a TSB that describes the fix and includes part #'s.

The 96 headlight switch was recalled in 1998/99. The truck should already have the newer switch installed. The only way to find out is pull switch and get part # off of the side and check with dealer.

My recollection is that the switch and harness (and maybe a relay) was for trailer towing to reduce the load on the switch. I got it put on my 97 2500.

The wiring package uses a relay to take the load off the park light circuit to prevent the overheating of the switch and insulator that many of us have seen. The dually was the worst case with it's many additional clearance lights.
