I have a 1997 dodge 2500 ext. cab, which has 120k miles, daily driver, hauls 4k every Friday night April thru Sept. , 5 speed nvg 4500, 3. 54 gears, star wheel turn forward quite a bit, amsoil air filter, silencer ring removed, dynamax 4" muffler and tail pipe, resinator cut in half guts removed welded back together, no guages, 15-16 mpgs. I am looking to improve what I have with what I got. My co-worker bought a 2000 power stroke with a dp tuner. Looking for some input and help. Thanks, this is my first thread.

welcome to TDR, i would start with guages, then a cam plate, then injectors, then a turbo... and the list goes on and on, your on a slippery slope when you start bombing your rig... it just never stops!. . good luck!

Welcome.

Fill out the signature section and you'll automatically let folks know about your truck.

Glad to see another 12V on the site.

I was going to stop with just the #10 plate. Look at where I'm at now. :eek: :-laf And I have DDP Stage 4 injectors on order. :D Will it ever end? :-laf :-laf Oo. Oo.

Bumping your timing up to 15. 5 to 16 * will help your mileage. With a #11 plate full fwd, 15. 7 timing, afe filter and walker muffler, no cat I dynoed 297/611. How much are you looking for and how much money do you have? :-laf

I'm looking for, not having to down shift into 4th to pass a car in a short distance or, into 3rd under load going up because somebody's sunday driving on a friday night and I'm running late to draw at the track. As far as money goes theres some for the truck, but most goes toward house and race car

PotterM;

You my good friend, are living on barrowed time with your "97". Read the post about the "KDP" by all means fix the Dowel Pin now, don't wait. The 97's have the worst history for the dowel pin failure. Cost to repair before failure $50 bucks. After, a couple thousand. JUST DO IT.

Marv.

[ I noticed this had not beem suggested. ]

"KDP" attacked me last year. Timing case was broke in the same spot as picture. Made up a jig and tig welded back together. At the time of repair I didn't know about the "KDP". Is it safe to assume that the pin is gone? I really don't want to be attacked again!

sounds like you have been attacked already. But With this engine? What about the bolts holding the case to the block?? They need checking also. And the pin does align the case to the block, and a little support.

do your sig, prevent failure by reading these threads and corectly upgrading and safly bombing my clock clicked over 330k this week that ford (powerjoke) will never last that long don't worry about him his day to loose is near. after returning from OEF III my buddy bought a 04 powerjoke 4dr sb 4x4 stick and we took them to test and tune night at the strip my truck had only been strait piped and nothing else. I did not win a single race that night but still went home happy. my truck was $7000 and was paid for when I stepped off the plane his was $48,000 he is still paying. he now lives in colorado but we will line up again shortly before he becomes a CTD fan for life.

Biggest change I noticed was following the #10 fuel plate and DDP injector install. I went pretty tame on the injectors by using stage 2's. Fuel plate is centered so I still have room the increae the power but I'm happy with what I have. Didn't notice a huge improvement on the low end but once moving the truck will accelerate like crazy.
