Bigger 5.9 truck?

Can a Mercedes 300SD be BOMBed?

Hey Guys... . Any one out there know what you can do to a 1997 VW Jetta Turbo Diesel (Not TDI) that would give it more power and better Fuel Mileage.....

vw diesel

I drive a 1. 6 non turbo diesel. I can tell you a lot about it it you need help. My brother has both the tdi and the older diesel like mine.

Set the timing up and that has helped mine in power and increased mileage. The fuel can be turned up a little with a turn of a screw on the pump. I read where a guy lowered the compression ratio and installed a header along with porting the head and turned up the fuel ( ve pump ) and he got alot more power. There is a 1. 9 engine that is not tdi that can either turbo or not.

There is a tdt engine that has a conversion to run a manual pump also.

People can laugh if they wont to but I drive the vw and it has 250k miles and it gets 45 running 75 to 80 miles an hour or 50+ at 55 miles. I have two spare engines but never have used them as I got them cheap.

I will run the engine for anouther 100 or 200k and then I will think about changing it out. pm me if you need help. lol jimk

No FL70CAT... It is not a TDI... . I have an early 1997 and it is not a TDI... They were available but unfortunatly I bought it cause it was a little cheaper, But I do not like the power or the fuel Mileage. . I wish it was a TDI... There must be things you can do to mine to give her a little more steam and mileage. . ?????

That is the engine I am looking for for my Rabbit PU. I have read that adding a modified Audi intercooler and then bumping up the fuel and timing can net as much as 120-130 hp. The website I read it on is gone but I seem to remember you had to make a fiberglass end tank to the intercooler an fab up some hoses. The intercooler fit behind the grill in front of the alternator.

Here is some posts I found regarding just this subject. http://www.cs.rochester.edu/u/jag/vw/engine/turbo/intercooler.html

If you happen to know of any 1. 9TD engines, I need 2. :D

That's what I would suggest. EGT gauge at least. Turn up the fuel till the EGT gets too high, then add the intercooler, then turn up the fuel again. Then play with the waste gate. Just like bombing a Cummins.
