Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 1998 12V EGR code

I have a 1998 12v with EGR that I disconnected while I was driving it (not a fan of soot in my engine). I just pulled the CEL light out of the dash since all it does is tell me my egr isint working. Now I am selling it so I hooked the egr back up, put the cel light back in and cleaned all soot out of the valve and checked for proper operation, the problem is when I plug my scanner in the emmsion staus light goes to yellow for an egr fault and the cel keeps coming back on. Im thinking there is a hard code stored in the ecm for it, does anyone know how to clear it? thanks!

The ECM is looking at the IAT to check EGR operation. When the signal is generated turning on EGR the ECM expects at least a 10* rise in measured IAT. Try disconnecting both batterys for about 30 min, should clear.
