Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 1998 Power??????

My brother drives a '98 3500 Cab&Chassis 4:10 and Auto; the truck is stock and he has never really stressed it. He recently bought a new 34' Alpenlite 5th wheel and the truck seams sluggish and the mileage is poor under towing conditions (10-11 mpg) . A long grade results in 35 mph speeds. Should he tow with the overdrive off? Could the ejector timing be the problem? Comment?

It sounds like the truck is simply overloaded. If he wants much more speed,he will need to modify the trans,get some guages,then add some power in that order.

My brothe in law did the same thing. He has been a Chevy man all of his life until he saw how my truck runs and runs and runs.....



Anyway, he bought a 98 3500 and tows a 28 foot fiver, mileage in the 10's and a stiff wind will knock you down to 50mph.



One more trip like that and he'll be begging me for the upgrades..... I am my own warranty station... . I am my own warranty station... ...
