The fuel heater element is melted and burnt outon my 1999 2500 24V, I went to Cummins and Dodge dealers to by a replacement. Cummins part #3898281S, Chrysler part # 4883052. Both Cummins and Dodge dealers listed the part number, but stated it is obsolete and not available. The Filter Head assembly, Fleet Guard part #FS19528 / FS19598, was also stated by Cummins and Dodge dealers to be obsolete and not available.

In issue 54 of TDR, page 22 under 12v Engines, there is an article on the replacement of the fuel heater element, however the head assembly is different. It appears that the heater element is available for the 12v engine, why is the heater element for the 24v obsolete and unavailable.

Where can I purchase a replacement fuel heater element my 1999 2500 24V ?.

I'm in the same predicament, but I found you have to buy the whole filter assembly, not just the heater element.

Both the Cummins dealer and Dodge dealer reported that they listed good part numbers for the filter assembly, heater element and cannister housing, but that they are all obsolete and unavailable.

At this time I'm looking for the OEM replacement. The cummins filtration system is an excellent option, but not for me at this time. Thank you for that reference.

I have spoke with Chrysler, Cummins and Raycor ( the OEM of the heater element and filter housing assembly ) and none of the housing parts including the heater element are available. The only component of the fuel filter/water separator system available is the filter itself.

The only solution offered by Chrysler, Cummins and Raycor is to replace the complete fuel filter/water separator heater with another cummins/fleetguard, Raycor or aftermarket product at the customers own expense.

Check your assembly and if it consists of the following part numbered components be prepared to re-design your fuel filtration system at your own expense.

Number cast in top of canister head, 3943976.

Cummins fuel filter/water separator assembly, 3898282S.

Fleetguard head assembly, FS19528 or FS19598.

Cummins head assembly 3898281S

Heater element, Chrysler 4883052, Cummins 3931582, Raycor proprietary N/A.

I would have expected that with such a large quanity of Dodge/Cummins trucks on the road, that a part which is essential to to drive ability would not have been made obsolete and unavailable.

As a reference I called my local Chevrolet dealer and asked if they had a replacement heater element for a 1986 6. 2 Litre Diesel, a past vehicle I have owned, and they had it on the shelf. There are a lot more Doge/Cummins in service, why abandon that customer base ?

Why? Because they can suck us for more $$$ to replace "@ customer's expense" with another system. I wonder if Rich @ Glacier Diesel can come up with something? On Edit - I sent a PM to see if Rich can come up with something.

Say it ain't so. American manufacturers are here to take care of their customers. I know they took care of me with the 53 block. I still cannot stand up straight and they told me it was for my own good

I have a 99 24v and fuel is leaking out of the rubber gromet that the heater wires go through the fuel filter houseing for the heater element is there a fix for this thanks. L Showalter

I just ran across this on ebay, hate to start a bid war. I put a 2002 housing on mine, cummins had the wif sensor plug in stock, but i had to buy a wire loom off a 2002 on ebay to get my heater up and going.
eBay Motors: MOPAR FUEL FILTER HOUSING DODGE RAM CUMMINS DIESEL (item 280303966383 end time Jan-25-09 16:20:22 PST)

That Auction is for the old style filter housing that is having problems in these threads. It'll plug right into a 98. 5-99truck. May end up with the same leaky wire problem (luckily we know the rebuild thanks to Larry) and irreplaceable heater, though.
