I am posting a thread for my friend Nathan. His truck is having the following problem. I am having him describe the problem below:

The first thing I noticed the ABS light, and the brake light came on when i was driving down the freeway at 70mph. Then the tachometer needle started becoming erratic in its relation to engine RPM.

When I came to the stop light after getting off the freeway, the tach stayed at 800 rpm, and the spedometer stopped working, until I hit 30mph. After 30mph the spedometer would start working, but the tach would still be erratic.

The truck has a automatic transmission, ATS triple lock commander, BD diesel exhaust brake, and that's all that I can recall at the moement.

What do you think is the problem?

The speed sensor in the rear axle has gone out. It is an easy change as it is on top of the axle housing and easily reached. Randy

Find an ohmmeter before buying the sensor. The sensor should ohm in the vicinity of 1800 ohms. The diagnosis you have given definately leads to the rear sensor except the tach part. You may have a crank sensor problem also or it may be a bigger problem affecting the tach, speedo,ABS and brake light together.
