I know that the 1st gen and 2nd gen 12v. trucks run different injectors and that the screw caps on top are different. But what are the internal differences? Is are the nozzles different? I don't have any first gen injectors to compare to so I haven't looked to see. This isn't a pressing issue, just something I've been wondering for a while.

thanks a bunch

Sean

89 to early 91 non-intercooled injectors have a 9mm tip on them, 91. 5 to 93 have the 7mm tip like the second gen but the pop presure is lower, can't remember the numbers but it is much lower than the p-pump injectors. Also like you said the threads are a differnt size on the top of the injectors. I was told that you could change out the top portion of the injector and get the pop pressure set differnt to run them in the other application. Not sure if you can or not.

It seems like you should be able to. I know you can shim and adjust injectors to change the pop pressure. Might have to look into that. Because 370's or stage 4's in a first gen would be pretty wicked. I wonder if the spray pattern matches the piston bowls. This is all just food for thought.

Thanks again,

Sean

If the stock spray angle is the same on the 1st and 2nd gens, then the piston bowl shape would probably be the same. If they are, the 370s will be off a bit. IIRC 145* on stock injectors and 155* on the 370s. Need thinner washers so they won't spray out of the bowl.

Personally, I'd go for the 4s. Glad I switched. Like the 4s even better than the 370s I had before. :D

every year first gen had a little differnt comp. ratio so the bowls are a little differnt but they should be in about the same spot on the piston as a second gen. The pod injector for the first gen is about the same as a 370 infact some people advertise them as a 390 I believe.

Ah, I really don't know much about the 1st gens, but I was under the impression that the POD's were only a 45hp injector. I know the POD's are supposed to be a really great injector, but thinking it was only a 45hp injector I thought it would be cool to find a way to get even bigger sticks in there. Ya learn something new everyday.

injection pump pressure is a lot lower on first gens than on P pumps, so you get more power from the latter with a given hle number and size.
