I have a 3rd gen 03 250HP 47RE auto trans, with a EDGE box and intake. When I take off from a dead stop or a slow role it is like the truck has no or very little power. When it hits second gear it all changes the tires will squeal and the truck runs like a mad dog. It does it on all power setting including stock. Is there a saftey built in to the truck or the box to keep you from breaking stuff when you want to roast the tires or race someone. I have even tried to power brake it a little to get the boast up and see if that helps but it seems even worse. Any thoughts

I've heard the SO trucks have very agressive torque management. Perhaps this is what you're feeling?

Get a Smarty. It will take care of the torque management. If it's a transmission problem, the Smarty may help you find it faster :D

My 2003 305/555 acts similar to this. You really don't feel the big power until 3rd gear or right after it goes into OD.

This is really evident with no load (no trailer). With a trailer, it has "more" power in the lower gears, but still not like OD.

I just got a Smarty and it has 4 different levels of torque management (stock, mild, moderate, wild) that are supposed to cure this issue. I haven't downloaded it yet to the ECU.

I am going to run "mild torque management" as the website says to drive conservatively on the "moderate" level or you will toast the transmission. The "wild" level requires a built transmission.

Smarty Jr comes with "mild"

People have reported that this really wakes up their lower end.
