Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1st gear only

My buddys 99 started having problems last week with delayed 1 2 shift. Now it won't shift out of 1st. Reverse is fine but no matter how hard he tries it won't come out of 1st. The truck has 69,000 miles on it. Oh by the way it is an automatic.

Probably the pressure governor went TU. You have to pull the VB to change it. It's messy but not hard.

Do a search for governor pressure solenoid / sensor.

Last week my wife jeep was taking off in 2nd gear. I change the sensor and solenoid, so far it's doing good. Both parts cost me $185. 00 at the dealer and I did not have to drop the valve body on the jeep.

Update on the problem, changed the sensor and solenoid,no change,it ended up being the speed sensor which by the way is the cheepest and easiest part of the 3 to change. Hope this helps someone down the road.

Had the same problem last week. Repair place just called to say the "speed sensor" had gone TU. $46 to replace and all is well again.
