Dodge Diesel's for Dummies

Alright, so being of the minority when it comes to all my buddies with trucks, I take notice of any 1st gen trucks. My girlfriend calls it my radar. Some women have to worry about their boyfriend looking at other women... when my head snaps it's probably a nice looking 1st gen.

Well you see 'em on the road, but I really go nuts when I see them on the silver screen. I have my own small little list of 1st gen plugs, so I wanted to see if anyone else has caught any.

BTW, since they'll be hard enough to find, I'm going for either gassers or diesels. Just so long as they're first gens. Anything 94 and up would be too easy to find.

I'll start:

the movie "Shooter"

The truck he steals and uses for almost the whole movie is an old Dodge. 80 something, can't remember if it has the crosshair grill or not so until I watch the movie again, I can't place a year on it.

music video for Trace Adkins "Rough and Ready"

when they show him standing with all the trucks around him and they zoom out you can see the front passenger's side of what I think reads "350" on the left side of the screen. Also this one is a diesel. 91-93

Alan Jackson's song "chasing that neon rainbow"

Its not exactly a visual, but its the only country song I know, with all the trucks they talk about, to ever mention a Dodge. Also, the song was written in 1990, which would make it 1st gen. The line is "five pickers and an old Dodge truck"

I remember a movie with Richard Thomas ( John Boy Walton ) in which a river was going to flood destroying the town. Thomas saved the day by allowing the Army Corp to blow up the dike and flooding his family farm. The Army Corp lady drove a 81-85 Crew Cab. I think it was green. Shadrach

Anyone remember the show Simon and Simon? Rick Simon had an early 80's 4x4 I believe with a big brush bar on the nose.

There was also a movie with Steven Segal ("Fire Down Below"?) and I recall he was driving an 80s beater at one point.

simon and simon used a macho wagon, i think it was a 79 maybe.

there is an episode of fall guy with a 80's green crew cab long bed. there is also some old stallone movie where he drives like a 79 or 80 1/2 ton long bed.

Simon and Simon was IIRC a '79 Power Wagon long bed with the 'Macho' paint option. That truck is much of the inspiration for our RC's paint job :).

I only know of two others. The one is in a Bill Murrey movie; Ground Hog Day. The truck is setting along the van when they get stopped on the free-way in the blizzard outside of Punxy.

The best is the Four-Door D350 seen in the Luke Perry movie, 8 Seconds. A rodeo movie about bull riding ledgend Lane Frost. I need that truck!! With a 1990 12 valve, obviously!!

i remembered these when i hit the sack last night, it turned into a sleepless night-

in the shirley muldowney video biography, they use her real-life crew cab dually. it even does a decent burn out on film. it was on ebay a few years ago, still looks the same. iirc it was a '82 with a sleeper and a big block. the ebay ad claimed the factory converted it to a 440 after the 360 wasn't enough.

there is also a brown Ramcharger in the new burger king 'shroom and swiss commercial, the one with the guy getting his junk tossed out into the driveway. it looks pretty clean, and it appears to have the prospector emblem on the rear quarter.

there is a red and white 1/2 ton long bed in one of the back to the futures, its either I or II. its when they land in the housing addition.

there is also a really nice W250 in smokey and the bandit 3. 81-85 style grille. its lifted a bit with bigger tires, chrome wheels, and a brush gaurd. its in there twice, once on a farm with a bikini girl nearby, and the 2nd with some clan members driving it.

there is a 2wd (i think) late 70's Ramcharger, as well as a 81-85 W250, in the clint eastwood movie, heartbreak ridge. they are both od green.

recently there was a 86-90 D150 on the new show eleventh hour. it was run into a tree in the first couple minutes.

there was also a clean W250 in csi. some kid shot himself in it. this same truck was in another show that aired within a week, it might have been criminal minds. it was blown up after being parked next to a burning house.

i have no life.

Ahh... . I cringe at the thought of Hollywood ruining some nice 1st gens.....

I got a couple more.

Haven't seen either of these movies but I noticed them in the previews.

First is the movie "Jarhead" there's two soldiers talking and one says he wants to buy "one of those indestructable Ramchargers. " The movie is based on the Gulf War, so 1990 or there about.

Second, I believe was a Spiderman movie. I don't know the premise, and I don't know whats going on, I just remember catching a glimpse of a 90 something tailgate in the background while 2 people were talking.

The truck in the 10-28-08 CSI was a 1977 4X4 and the rodeo kid did not shoot himself in it, one of the CSI guys saved the day. ;)

back from the dead...

if anybody watched NCIS last night, there was 91-93 D350 in a trailer park. it was only there for 1/2 sec or so, as they ran past it. looked dark grey, or a two tone, like scott's truck. no tdr badge though!

in the movie "my hereo's have always been cowboy's" the lead character drives a really nice red d-250 the entire movie 86-88 truck?

The other night on "The Mentalist" there was a guy driving a 86-90 W250. Looked solid. They included a scene where he was running away from a rain storm/flash flood, and he got stuck on a hill side. The hill wasnt that steep, it shoulda made it in 2wd no problem. I'm sure it was all for dramatic effects though.
