Anyone intersted? I don't care for the chat setup on TDR and it would be nice to do a 1st gen only as we are so special. :D

Any thoughts?

Will you make it easer to use than the chat room now. Well it is probably easy to use if I only knew what the heck I was doing. If I only knew what ( or where ) you suppose to do (or put) with those . a , . b , . g and all of that stuff. And dose everyone chat on the main channel or do people chat on channel 1,2,3. 4. Am I lost or what.

:-laf :-laf :-laf ... Oh Lord, give me strength... . :-laf :-laf :-laf

Lets see... ... I KNOW I had the number for that Chevy dealer around here somewere... ... ... :D

1st Gen chat ehhh... ... . well, that's something for the New Year. .

and it can be done in here too... .

Bob.

Generally only the main channel is used but there's no reason that the others couldn't be used for something like what your talking about. As far as making the chat easier to use it can't get much easier. Just type in what you want to say and hit enter - it sends that. Those commands don't need to be used to chat at all. The main one that's used by people is . p which is to send a private message to someone. You can click on the who's on button and get the user number of the person you want to send a private message to and then send something like this (to send to user #11):

. p11 private message

With 4 channels there could be up to 4 totally different chats going on simultaneously.

Actually, of all the divers web-based chat interfaces I've used, the TDR chat (Nakenchat) is one of the nicest and easiest to use.

If you want a 1st-gen only chat, arrange a regular time and a channel name to use, e. g. , "1st Gen Chat". Start up chat, go into that channel, and wait for others to arrive.

The one nice thing about being the first one to open a channel is you become the owner, and can 'kick' out disruptive folk. You can also lock the channel so no one else can enter.

fester',,,, shhhhhhhh... don't tell em that ... . geezzzz... . we'll have the bum's rush and I'll get trampled in the stampede... . what were you thinking. . ;);)

I'm betting that the 'high end' admin can fix that up though... usually you use a 'bot' or something like that to allocate status or authority.

I must be getting slow,,, after this topic was opened I was already getting set to send a PM to 'the man upstairs' ;) and set this up... ...

Anyway, this sounds like fun if we can get a regular night/time in place.

I'm waiting to hear back from Steve to find out if there any particular requirements or rules, then I'll help you guys get rolling ..... as if you need me to do it... ... sheeshhh... ;);)

Bob :)

Steve,I understand(know) how to type what you want to say then push enter when you want to talk on the main channel. I just didn't know where to type those commands in at. Do you type . p 11 private message in the same place as you do when you type what you want to say and then push enter spot. See I said I didn't know what I was doing.

Wayno,

Yes, you got it. . there is a "text bar" at the bottom of the screen.

It's in there that you type whatever you want to say OR type in the command such as the message command. After that you just hit enter and it's done.

The biggest mistake most make is not using the proper syntax.

You must for example use the ". " to preface your commands in order for them to work properly.

There are options on the right side of the 'channel' that you can select. These simplify the various command options like "who" is on the channel.

Anyway, that's all there is to it really. Just use the text bar at the bottom of the screen and you're off to the races... . ;) so to speak. .

bob.

OK, I got the bar thing, but I have to type the commands like this ". p" 11 private message or like this ". p 11" private message or ". p 11 private message"

Maybe I missed something last time I tried the TDR chat but it did not seem to matter which channel I was on I still received dialog from the other channels.

Again maybe it's just me but I find the background picture on the chat interface very annoying to read over. I changed the font once to make it easier to read and the words did not wrap but went off the screen.

Also- every chat I have joined here, which I'll admit is just a few, were... well of content I'd rather not be involved in.

Anyway I think it would be outstanding if we could setup a time maybe once or twice a week.

Would someone please explain where the chat room is. I see no buttons or links to it. Is this some other program that is used?

hehehe. . ya they tucked it in a corner

It is on the member exclusives page, down at the bottom "live chat"

A couple of more tips

Another tip about using functions like the personal message. . Don't put a space between the . p and the person's number you want to send it to. It should look like this-. p12, not this . p 12. It gets easier to use once you're there for a while. If you want to send a message that is seen in all of the channels, type . y and the message, and it will "yell" in red across all channels.

Again maybe it's just me but I find the background picture on the chat interface very annoying to read over
All of us on the chat find THAT background picture annoying, must be that ugly green truck:-laf :-laf

Chat room??? Heck,I can't even figure out how to put a

"smily face" on a message. The last message I entered,in

another forum, printed twice. My Mother DID raise a fool!!

just like that underdog:D put your curserover the smile you want on the list and left click it will appear when your post is sent:cool: Oo. bill

jbolt - if you change to a different channel you will only receive what's sent to that channel. The exception is that people can do a cross channel "yell" - . y - and that will send it to all the rooms.

I've asked in the past and the majority of people preferred the chat room background rather than just a blank black background which was there before. I'm usually in the chat room at night and I'll ask the users there what they'd prefer again.

I'm going to be redesigning the web page soon when I get the last of the members access areas tied into the forum database for the username and password (the classifieds and the travel companion). At that point there will be a members only main page and a guest main page and the chat link will be directly on that page rather than being in the member exclusives menu.

Based on the input in here I have changed the channel names - there is now the Main channel, 1st gen, 12 valve, 24 valve, and 3rd gen channels. Noone will own those channels but the moderators will have access to the sysop commands.

Now just pick out a time for you guys to meet in there and enjoy!

-Steve

Hey Steve thats great. Thanks! Now all I have to do is get the other undervalved old iron drivers to join in. :-laf

Sooooooo..... what times are good for eveyone? Oo.

Jay

And I thought I was the only one who didn't know what I was doing. Hey johnrv4 your not the only one that doesn't know how to put the smiley faces on the screen. I just put - smiley face goes here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But then again I am computer illiterate
