Off Roading 1986 chevy help!!!

Ya, I have, I am running the 6" skyjacker springs f/r 1. 5 " longer shackles, 2" perch drop no body. 38. 5x16x16. 5R Swampers. Cross over steering. Have a few pics in "readers rigs". Might find it easiest to scroll thru by state. I am in oregon. (92 white std cab 250) Let me know if your need any details.

Is the cross over steering needed for the 6in lift.

I have been looking at the same 6in lift. although I was going to us 4. 5in springs in the rear and 6in in the front because my long bed ext cab truck sits so low in the front is this a good choice or should I do something else?

The x-over steering is not needed but it is nice, cheap and easy, you don't have to get a 2wd steering box like the chevy guys, just relocate the box on the predrilled holes on the frame ( these holes are used on the 2wd trucks but come on the 4x's even though they arn't used) All you need is a $150 steering arm and a draglink w/ends. All my stock suff was blown so it was cheaper to go theis route, the leverage is nice for the bigger tires. Any way, my truck sat low in the front too but the complete 6" kit comes with the proper front and rear springs to level you out and get 6" lift front and rear. You swap the stock rear block out for a smaller one that comes in the kit and that compensates for the sag in the front. I got my springs from summit, they seemed to be the cheapest and no shipping charges for the HEAVY springs! Let me know if you are interested in the x-over, I'll fill you in a little more on part #'s, vendors etc. Good Luck!

Wow that doesn't sound so bad at all. So you did not have cut anything out of the way just move the box and attach the new arm? I definatly would like more info if you could. I have been looking at the skyjackers 6in springs from various ventors. You recommended Summit springs. Are they a brand of spring or are they a ventor? thanks for the help. Oo.

I got my springs at Summit Racing, a mail order company similar to Jegs. They also have the drop pitman arm. It is notched in 4 spots so you can rotate it to go side to side insead of front to back. You will have to extend the steering shaft to reach the new box location. All you got to do on the steering box location is remove the box from the bracket and bolt it directly to the 2wd position, about 3-4" forward. I got my steering arm from they also have the drag links. :D

Are you able to send a picture of where you notched out the truck for me? :)

Did you move the bracket on the left wheel to the right wheel ?

The crew I just bought has the Super Lift 5. 5" and 315/75/16 tires. It looks pretty good, but it's a little stiff for me. I had the Skyjacker 4" on a previous truck and I liked it better. Mine has a driveline vibration due to the lift, and an adjustable drag link to fix the steering. The cross over steering is a better solution, but I don't know of any kits available so you'll have to put it together yourself, but it's not to hard.

Summit usually has pretty good prices. Look here as well

www.offroadexchange.com

They specialize in '72 to '93 Dodge stuff.

I looked on summits web site but i could not find the tie rod or the ends  . I dont think i know what i looking for. do you have part #s from when you installed your cross over steering? :)

I thinks I am going with the skyjackers everyone seems to like them. Thanks for the help guys.

The steering shaft that comes out of the bottom of the box is notched at 12 o'clock, 3 ,6, and 9 as you look at it or the pitman arm. If you go to the sky-manufacturing web site and call him (541) 736-3743, tell him you need everything to do x-over like Ryan did on his dodge (he is local and a buddy). He will sell you a steering arm for the passenger side of your dana 60 and a drag link. I can measure my drag link if need be and he can cut and tread it for ball joints. He can also tell you the part #'s of the ball joints that will work. One is Left hand thread and the other right so you can fine tune it to get equal left to right sterring and center your steering wheel. The bracket that is attached beteen the frame and the steering box is just removed and placed in the garage in case you want to put it back to stock later. Hopefully this helps.

check out offroad exchange as earlkann has suggested. They sell Shaggys parts. I think you will like what you find. shaggys stuff is second to none.
