I am the very satisfied owner of a 99 3500 QC 4x4. My son has now developed a craving for Cummins diesel sound and smell. We have found a 93 350 QC 4x4 5 sp. 4:10 RA, 90,000 miles. What advice do you have? What is it worth? What should we look for? What were the shortcomings of this model? Thanks, we need to be as objective as possible. My son may have the fever.

Ninearrow: Sounds like a nice truck. The 1st Gens. are solid units. As you've described it, the truck has a lot of positives. The only negative attribute, as I see it, is the 4. 10 rear. The Cummins doesn't need it.
I've looked at 4 great Cummins/Dodges lately,(97's and 98's) and walked away from them because of the 4. 10 rears. Gotta love that 3. 54.
The mileage is low for the year (93), I've seen '92's and '93's selling from 11 to 15. 5 k. The mileage isn't as important as the care and maint. on the truck.
I'm considering finding a good home for mine.
Good luck and have fun in your search.

Ninearrow,
I agree with old school, you're better off with 3. 54's. Mine truck has 4. 10's and I wish every day that it didn't #ad
I shift into 5th at 40mph and I usually drive about 68mph on the highway to keep the revs down.

My 92 W250 has 117K mostly troble free miles. The one BIG weakness is the gertag(junk) transmission. I have babied mine for 8 yrs. Easy double cluching, using synthec lub ect. If your boy wants to speed shift you better get your wallet out. Thats the only weakness in a very solid truck.

The Getrag < in my case > is the weak link. Altho I'd perfer the 4:10 The 3:54 can't be beat. I haul 36,000 Lbs on a regular basis. I just bought a new < reman > Getrag in less than 500 miles w/o a load it started leaking at the top. @ 11,999 miles it will be at the dealer to fix yet another leak on the transmission. You'd think that a sum of $ 3,200. 00 they would get it right. JMHO. Regards, Mike

Hey Old School!

Tell me it isn't true! You're considering finding a new home for your Imaculate Ride!?

If you're serious email me some details! I've always considered your truck to be my personal benchmark for determining when mine will be nearing compeletion ( if there is such a thing)!

Seriously, my whitewater kayaking buds here in the Southeast think my truck is the ultimate 'River Truck' set up similar to your's with a Leer Topper, roof rack & nicely proportioned tires/wheels. Your's my friend is a "Show Stopper"!

Maybe it would enjoy relocating to the South where the Winters are mild & salt free!

Let me know I'll ask around... ... Keeno

Ps: Will you remain as our fearless leader?

Ninearrow, if your boy is going to be bob tailin' around, as already stated, the 3. 54's are the only way to fly. I can't imagin needing 4. 10's with the amount of power available, I already have problems with keeping rubber on the rims. My Getrag is a little loose from jammin to blast the odd GM/Ford in the way, but I heard alot of horror stories about the auto too.

Thanks for all the good info. Deal fell through on the one we were interested in, but we're still looking. We definitely want a 5sp and the 3. 54's.
