Stomp, any others, I'd like to see pictures of a 4" downpipe for a HX40 on a 1st gen. I'm buying a hx40 4" dp off a 2nd gen from tdr member BWillard. Looks like I'll have to cut the flange off and weld up a short radius 90* elbow or something. Anyone?

This DP has the 3 inch flange. Just below the 90° elbow is a 15° bend and then another 90° elbow. The pic you have isn't going to fit bro as the elbows aint sharp enough.

The 15° piece was welded in to allow the DP to sorta "bend" around the truck's frame upper flange. If you look close you can see where the frame flange is. The DP then has clearance so as not to rub the upper frame flage. It's close in there. There is a 90 just below the 15° piece.

Scott, that 15*piece you speak of, is it just a short piece of 4" pipe not quite straight? Gotta get my parts list made up before sourcing the pieces needed. Figure I'll run flex from the dp through the t-case.

You won't need the 3 to 4 adapter... ... ... ... .....

90 short radius elbow; 89095A (legs are 4. 5" long)

15 radius elbow ; 89132A ( legs are 2. 0" long)

another 90° elbow below that... can't recall the leg length,but it's longer than the top. Probably a 7. 00 and 9. 00 length legs... . PN 90889A

Gitcha a Nelson exhaust book from a Cummins dealer. Nelson IS Cummins :)

BTW... if you look close, again, I welded a VERY short piece of 4" pipe just below the top 90 el. I think I cut some off the original length and found it to be too short. You can see the transmission dipstick and just to the right of the handle is the piece I welded in place. The 15° is just below that.

You can get an HX35 - HX40 DP adapter and then all you need to do is move the mating flange back so that there is almost no "radius" left on the bottom part of the DP inlet... basically you gotta cut off enought that there is just enough true 4" diameter then put the flange back on.

pb...

Bob,

I don't quite understand that at all... .....

The adapter I have seen on the PDR site and do not understand how it works. You WELD it onto the DP AFTER cutting off the 3" flange??????????. I have hopes to build my Stage III into the next step further by adding the larger turbine wheel and housing (w/4" outlet), so this holds intrest with me.
