Oh. You!! You don't belong here! I knew I should have added your name in with the people not allowed to use this thread! Why don't you go play with some matches at the gas station! :-laf :-laf :-laf :D

For those who don't know, Shawn is the Ontario VP. One of the most skilled welders I have seen ( he could weld a butt back on a cat if it needed it), but the guy is TROUBLE! :-laf I break something, he laughs. Trim falls of the truck, he laughs. Project truck is not done, he laughs!

For the fun of it, he is the type of guy that would tack weld your door shut, grab a lawn chair and sit off to the side and have many laughed at your expense! :D

Keep am eye on him!

What he refers to in beating me, last year we had our drag race day and the two of us did about 20 passes and whoever got off the line first won. And then we did our dyno day. I bettered him by 1 hp... Lol. I say impressive for a VE running against a P pump!

As for your question Shawn, where are your 5 bonus hp? I gave them to bater! So you are down 5! :D:-laf

Shawn, if I can find those horses, I will give 'em to you, because I have great admiration for a skilled welder.

TIG welding class is the only time I ever got "held back a grade". I did not pick up on it as fast as the twenty year olds, and at the adult ed instructor's "suggestion", I had to suck it up and repeat the course!

Andy

Ummm, I'll give you 5hp points if you'll just weld my doors "on. " Not closed, mind you. I'm not sure we could be friends if you welded my doors closed... ... . and I'm not sure the door hinges would take my "General Lee Leap" to get in!!! :D I'm not scared to laugh at myself, though, so I'm sure we'd all have a good laugh... ... .

Got an extra lawn chair? :D

Bschwarzli: thanks for the invite to the funny farm :-laf Oh wait, you tried to kick me out as I'm the party pooper from the 2nd gen camp. :D Looks like your first gen buddies have invited me in!

Yup, I can weld a butt and a mouth on a cat as that's part of my job as muffler manufacturer for all the gasser cars and trucks. (cat short for catalytic converter) :-laf

So... . you have "1" measly little hp over my p-pumped 12v? That sure didn't help you much at cayuga dragway. I'm sure these guys have figured out my secret to keeping up and winning half the time at the track even though my goat is 8,000lbs compared to your goat's 6,400lbs. (the secret is in the sig beside "best dyno"):-laf

Bater: Hello, glad to meet you, and thanks for the offer of 5hp! Now with both 5 hp from you and HHhuntitall, that makes 10hp and black soot in Bschwarzli's face. :-laf

Yes, I like welding a lot and learned from professionals more than at school. I'm not licensed but do just as well or better than some. I'm what we call the jack of all trades and a master of none;). I do find that even some people with a license shouldn't have one at all. #@$%! So I'm happy to have learned the art of fusing metal.

HHHuntitall: same to as well on the offer of 5hp! Yup, plenty of lawn chairs to go around here.

I love those Dukes of Hazzard movies, I can even imagine a First gen truck in the place of the dodge charger doing all those stunts! :-laf

Be pretty hard to even try and jump into the window of such high trucks while running from the law. Maybe carrying a pole to vault ourselves into the window to get away. Also, those dukes of hazzard stuff can't be complete without a nice looking girl. There's got to be a better way to get them in the truck through the window without being kicked in the face for looking at her butt while she's trying to get in and slapped in the face if she did a bellyflop into the mud while trying to get out. :-laf

Lets all get together at Bshwarzli's place (once again, plenty of lawn chairs to go around) and we can watch mother nature do her version of applying power through the form of ice expansion against the newly built retaining wall and knock it over.

Beware though, Bschwarzli loves to put curses on people when we have a good laugh. ;) (just buy yourselves 100 cans of Raid and see if that's sufficient)

Don't you speak about my retaining wall like that! It took me three weeks to build it!

May you be infested by the fleas of 1000 camels! :-laf

:D

(well I had to give a demo ... lol )

You did hit on something though. We have the same HP. But tq you have so much more (I have 720 peak).

How is that possible?

Hmmm

I'd better get to wally world right away and buy up all their cans of Raid before the fleas get here in a few hrs. :-laf:-laf:-laf The wall can stay up sir.

As for so much more torque, That's what p-pumps are notorious for.

Probably because the afc is no longer used. No boost to fuel control anymore, so under load, p-pump keeps pouring fuel as long as turbo can supply the air. :-laf

I love my 3rd gen. I miss my 2nd gen with a passion. And I just cut 42. 5" out of my 93 first gen frame last weekend and I am going to be in love with it also.

Rambling? Ya. Some Eye candy (some of you will probably be mad... ) :-laf

Ill start a thread on this "wtf was I thinking" project soon.

Haha... Im interested too!! My plans change by the minute. :D But yeah, its for the RC conversion. Fabbing up the hangers and stuff for the ~63" chev rear springs this weekend, along with front mounts to run 52's up front. Then it will be time to test fit the body and make a few mounts...

Wow It sure didn't take long to fill this thread up. Even though I defected to 3rd gen I still love 1st gens. My 92 would start as soon as you turned the key ( a lot faster than my 03 ). The other day I saw a 92 driven by a guy in his 80's. I talked to him and he only had 162k kms ( 100k miles ) on it. Apart from a few small stone chips on the front edge of the hood it was clean and shinny. We used to have a customer with a 93 and he had over 2 million kms ( about 1,245,000 miles ) on it. Shadrach

Wow! 2,000,000 kms? That's awesome! And to think Cummins only rated these engines to go only 350,000 miles before needing overhauling. They did say that 350,000 miles is very conservative, about 500,000 miles would be normal. :)

I first came in contact with Cummins powered Dodge in the early '90s when a contractor came to a job we were doing way back then. I always said that if Dodge would build one I would buy it - that happened in '93. I bought one new and after the 2nd oil change I started BOMBing the then young lady! I can't beleive how little I knew back then and how little I still know about the now old girl.:rolleyes:

I joined the TDR back when the mag was a post-it note and now have every addition ever printed. In those days it was generally thought that 250 RWHP was the most power you could get out of a VE - yeah right -:eek:

It is still a daily driver and is almost broken in with 240,000 miles on the odo.

Bob

I remember the day one of the Dodge dealers brought a brand new 89 to our shop. It was in Sept 88 and while every one was looking under the hood at the engine I was under the truck looking at the mounts, exhaust and wondering what a "Getrag" was? I had owned 1st gens since 1980 and was curious to see how they had installed the engine and related gear. We bought several D350's for service trucks and later we put an 89 with full service body on the chassis dyno and the 160 engine put 180 to the wheels. Shadrach

We had a 1989 dodge running on a hydraulic dyno on Sunday. It has a 14mm ve, . 018 6 hole injectors and something different with the turbo. We couldn't see anything in the dyno room. So much smoke. Robert is laughing with glee (from afar). The dyno operator was watching his dyno gauges and then all I could see was his boots. 395 hp I think it had.

There was a very nice chassis cab first gen truck there at the same place with a dump box. Very pristine condition as far as I could see. I'll have to ask Robert as he's talked to people about it.

Wow! A short *** frame! I am use to seeing the opposite! :-laf

Very nice! Keep us posted with pics!

Guess we all like talking about nothin'! :D

So cool to hear the stories from the folks who have been there from the start.

Yup. I have pics of both trucks. Just have to work on uploading them.

Gawd I love first gens! :D

Oh yeah! I really like first gens too. Especially after spending 2 weeks driving one. Feels completely like a truck. :D I'll see if I can get pics of it. ;)

Starting up on a very cold -27 degrees winter weather after sitting for over 2 years. Started on its own with nothing more than a good battery and battery booster.

diesel smoke on a cold day. :-laf

At the same time several hours away, Bschwarzli is attempting to start his old goat after running his temporary tank dry at his workplace. Big oops there! hood open, cracking injector lines and cranking over. :-laf:-laf:-laf (Probably lots of colorful words there!)
