Coming out of town tonight, I blasted past an unsuspecting friend of mine who is the proud new owner of a 2000 3/4 ton 4x4 vortec gasser. I knew he wouldn't be able to resist the challenge after I so obviously hammered it going around him as we were leaving town. I settled in up front and backed it off to 50 mph and waited. Sure enough, the first straight stretch we came to, here came his headlights, and fast. We all know how hard it is to outrun somebody who has already got his foot in it before you can put yours down, but I let 'er rip anyway.
Here's the good part. He couldn't take me! He got his front bumper even with my rear, then I started pulling away. Took 'er to the governer then let him by.
I still had some doubt in my mind, so when I got home I went straight for the phone to ask him if he was really giving it all it had. The phone was ringing when I came inside, and it was him wanting to know what in the he!! I'd done to that diesel! Said he was planning on blowing my doors off and gave it all it had.
I bombed my pickup primarily for towing, but I've got to admit. . THAT WAS FUN!!!
Chalk one up for the 1st. Genners! #ad

Stock - or near stock - early Cummins aren't usually much against a properly set up gas V8 when EMPTY... But strap 10,000 lbs. on them and put 'em on a 7% grade, and it's a COMPLETELY different story!

That's what fools MANY competing brands and engine setups - they feel strong on the flats when empty - but fall flat under loads the Cummins will shrug off with NO problem.

Same with the new Ford Powerstroke - even with my relatively simple mods, and 9 years difference in age, haven't been passed by one on a grade with a similar load to my 8,000 fiver YET - but I *have* passed THEM, and it was obvious they WERE trying to not let me!

Amazing what Cummins does with 360 cubic inches!
