Did a hand cal. MPG check 14. 4 with
712 mi. on 2500 LWB. The overhead
read 13. 8 not to far off.
It's a great truck!!
My 99 (see classif. ) is still F/S--

Picked up truck in Portland area drove to Reno I-5 to Shasta then Hwy 89 to 395 tried to vary speeds and work it a bit on the hills. Overhead finished with 15. 0 had cal 15. 25. smooth power and nice handling in the twisting bits. After I break a 1000mi will do a few round trips with the boat to Lake Tahoe to see what happens.

my 7-9 is pulling a 4k trailer empty .

im getting 12-14 no trailer...

the trailer weight dosent seem to matter it is the wind. .

I have pullud it with 6k in it or empty... bodem line is it sucks

any one know how to force a buy back... ???

Let her break in...

In the beginning mine (cf. below) didn't get much over 14-16mpg empty, 10-11mpg pulling my 5er (admittedly, I'm a little bit of a lead foot :).

After 15,000 miles it was up to right around 18. 5-19mpg empty, around 13-14mpg pulling. Went back down during the winter 'cause of that darn winter diesel, averaged around 18-18. 3mpg empty.

A lot will depend on your driving habits. If I want to get good mpg, I try to stay under 2000RPM as much as I can (that's right around 73-74mph); empty can get it over 20mpg that way - but really no fun

Wind, especially when towing a good-sized 5er, will greatly impact your mpg experience...

I'd give her some time to break in. Your mileage could improve up to 15,000-20,000 miles with these Cummins.

They brought my 04 by friday afternoon. Over the weekend with 80 miles on the odo, the 'puter is showing just a hair over 16.

A first observation is my '04 is smoother, more quiet and has more bottom end torque than my '03. I was on the phone coming to work this morning not paying attention to what I was doing, looked down and had dropped off to 875 rpm in 6th. I gently eased on the go pedal and she pulled right back up with no bucking or vibaration. Awesome!
