New to TDR. Just purchased a '01 quad cab that was from an auto auction. It was a lease return, in excellent condt. with 60k miles. I have no history of what oil was used in the truck. Dealer must of changed it before sale as it's clean w/new filter. My question is what oil to use, I'm leaning toward Delo 400. Also what weight oil? That truck is all stock w/at and will tow 2000 lb. boat. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Oh No not another OIL war. Just kidding. Amsoil 15-40 synthetic diesel.

And welcome to the TDR. Hope you got your wallet ready for the ride. Tons of info and allot of great people here.

Welcome to the "club"! Lotta really good people here! My opinion? Definitely synthetic! Royal Purple, Red Line, & Amsoil are all true synthetics, meaning polyolesther based, most of the rest that claim to be 100% synthetic have a petroleum based carrier. They are still good, just a matter of price and preference. As far as Dino oil, stick to known brands like Chevron Dello, Mobil Delvac, Shell Rotella (as long as your nose isn't too sensitive:D , https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=102133 ), Castrol RX, etc. , etc. , just make sure whatever you run, you get 15w40, unless you plan on some really cold climate operating, then 5w40. Hows that for avoiding an oil war, guys?
