OK i noticed this today and it is really annoying. My truck seems to be VERY sluggish from a dead stop. anyone have this problem before? i have a auto 48re with/cummins h. o. i could barely stay with traffic unless i hit it up to about 21-23 hundred rpm's! :(

One bad load of fuel is all it takes. I always carry a spare filter just in case.

No mention of trouble codes, perhaps something with the trans not starting out in first gear but perhaps you are doing second gear starts.

There is a way to check for trouble codes you turn the key three times or something I forget, hopefully someone will tell you how.

good luck steve

ok guys i will change my fuel filter. 1 problem though. I HAVE NEVER CHANGED A FUEL FILTER ON THIS TRUCK BEFORE :( . where can i get a good fuel filter and how do i install it

read the first part of his post he said TALL TIRES + 3. 73 + auto = slow off the line.

yes the tires did slow me down at first and i noticed it, i have 4. 10's so i am ok there, and i do have an auto. On that subject to each his own im sure a expierence 6 speed driver would be quicker than my 48re... . no reason to start a trans war. forget it

ok guys i bought 2 fuel filters from genos. i will replace the bad one when it comes and i will keep the other one handy in the truck in case i feel it again. i still need to know how to install this. .

thanks,

nick

1. Drain the fuel.

2. Remove top from canister with a 1 1/8" wrench. Don't use the square drive hole, you will crack the top.

3. Remove old filter and discard the old O ring.

4. Wipe out canister with clean lint free rag or towel.

5. Put in new filter.

6. Put oil or diesel fuel on the new O ring and replace top of canister. It will turn a bit hard because of the seal. I just get mine "snug". Do not prime the canister.

7. At this point, make sure the drain is closed.

8. Turn key to "start" but just hit it without starting vehicle.

You will hear the fuel pumping into the cannister for about 22

seconds. I do this a second time, I don't know that it is

necessary.

9. Start truck and let run for a minute or so, check for leaks around cylinder and you are done. Pretty simple.

This is a very simple operation, just be aware that the top turns hard at first and when tightening up because of the o ring and the prime with the start function. Good luck .

Copied this post a while back because I knew I would need it!!

:D Thanks DEAN for the info.

has anybody thought about the throttle position sensor thingy y'all automatic guys have to deal with?

i read it in this last issue of TDR, if you start the truck in any position other than idle, it'll act goofy

How about a 1. 89 60' with 3. 73 and 315/70/17 tires. :D Try stalling out a 48RE in 4x4 and see what happens, can you say defuel?:( My nephew really needs a fix for this. Tried BD's RAD, but it won't work on an 03 they say.

My experience with a bad TPS is not necessarily a sluggish car/truck but a car/truck that would shift hard and prematurely (had an auto). The problem would come and go. Has the original poster had the truck scanned for any codes? A bad TPS should show up.
