Here's how I do it, start with a full tank of fuel to make the L/P job easier, bleed the filter housing down with the lever, place a pan under the truck to catch all the fuel, spin the cap off and pull the old filter and put the new filter in place as well as the new O ring, tighten it down , close the fuel drain and bump the key so you have a 25 second run on the L/P, repeat the key bump 2 more times and then it should go, I watch my fp gauge at the vp and when pressure is there than its good to go, check for leaks and have fun.

cheers, Kevin

You might want to drain it first so you can reach down and clean your WIF (water in fuel) sensor.

If Whitmore's bump technique does not work, you might have a weak lift pump. On mine the lp will run but once the fuel filter canister has been emptied I have to take the input line off the canister and pressurize the tank to get the lp to prime.

When they say "bump", they mean turn the key all the way to the start position momentarily, then let it return to the "on" position. Don't just turn it to "on" and think that the lift pump is running. Ask me how I know! :{ :{ It's no fun to air up the VP-44! I learned this lesson on my first fuel filter change - I'm glad the batteries were in good shape.
