Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 1st to 2nd shift defueling on a 2002

I was told that all 2001 and 2002 trucks have a quick defueling program in the PCM during high boost wide open throttle operations to keep torque down and save the transmission. I just had a full DTT transmission done last weekend and during the test drive we notice no such defueling and infact smoked the tires from first through second without so much as a hint of defueling.

Anyone know what gives? I am about to do the Catcher ECM but only need it for this phenomenen that seems not to exist. I already have good timing with the Comp and was hoping to get some feedback?????

I too would like to know. I've had mine up to 120 mph,and it's still climbing!!

I have not seen it on my 02 either. I even thougth it was an issue and added a rad and never use it'

I saw it demonstrated to me on a 2002 truck that had 3. 54 gears. I wonder if it pertains to that ratio only. It would make sense to me. What do you think?

I've got a good transmission in mine to and dont think theirs any 'de' anything on my 1-2 shift with my 3. 54s. I wonder if timing boxes override the function?If not I'd love to see the 1-2 shift with all the fuel thrown at it!

The first to second gear defuelling becomes really noticable only when you power brake and then launch HARD. During "normal" driving it's not as noticeable as some say. Timing boxes can't cure that defuelling. The only two ways arround it that I know, are the RAD and the CaTCHER.

P. S. Yes, with 3. 54 gears the defuelling is more noticeable.

Marco, The launches we performed were 20 pound boosted launches at WOT. Sorry I didnt clarify
