Was riding the trusty ol' John Deere this evening and make a lap around the Ram and what's this??? I see a puddle underneath and smell the fuel. I've been having some trouble w/my aux. fuel tank wanting to fill my main tank lately and just thought that some crud from the aux tank had plugged the filter. A quick jiggle of the valve has worked the last couple of times. I did this on the way home tonite and when I worked the valve a couple of times, it immediately filled the main tank back up to full. On to the problem.

I look around under the truck and it's not leaking anywhere around my plumbing or fill neck splice and it's coming from a small open vent like nozzle on the top of the tank near the back. I've read that these tanks have un-capped vents but what would be causing my fuel to fill it up that much to run out there? I popped the gas cap on the main tank thinking it would have to be full up to there to cause it to leak out of the vent but I can't even see fuel in the filler neck.

Am I doomed to not being able to gravity feed my main tank all the time and just when it's empty? Not a big hassle but the first tank full (51gal. ) worked like a charm and I never touched it. Or can I just cap that vent? There is an anti-flow ball valve where my aux. line tees into the filler line that I thought was supposed to close when the main tank filled up to that point. Could some trash be causing it to stick open?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

When I installed the vent kit on my tank I could see where some fuel leaked out the front vent on my tank. All you have to do is put a hose over both the vents, then into a T-fitting, and run the vent hose out between the bed and the cab. Put a small filter on it and your done.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure I exactly understand. There are two vents on the main tank? Once I put them on the T fitting, where will the line go from there? What does the small filter accomplish? Sorry, it's been a long one and I'm just not seeing it.

i dont know if the tank has two vents or not. . but run them to a tee and then run them up higher on the truck. the filter keeps dust and other unwanted crap out of your fuel. a small fuel filter works great. the inline style.

I posted a thread a while back "check your fuel tank today" , do a search for it, it's good reading. My problem was water and dirt getting in one of the vents instead of fuel getting out.

You might need to modify the way you are transfering fuel so it doesn't over fill.
