How to fit it in

4BT timing, how much?

I am guessing you would have to find a dealer that sell marine gas turbine engines and they should know a mechanic who would service them. There is a company that is putting out a Rotary Diesel engines that puts out 500 hp and weights 350 pounds. If you are going to high hp in cummins go to the C series it is designed for it. As far as outdrives go look up Konrad they make an excellent outdrive that can handle the torque the diesels put out. I am not sure Mercury makes a good drive that will stand up to the diesels. I have seen 6 or so Charter boats try the Mercury outdrives and everyone has switched to Konrad drives. The different boats had Bravo III's and Bravo II drives. I do not know of any of the gas power boats that had problems just diesels. I have a new set of Bravo III drives that are powered by 5. 0 gas engines at 260 HP. I am going to put it in the water next week and I hope that they work out. The new gas set up for twins cost $25K. Any way good luck with your project.

This is a cool thread, I don't know how I missed it. :D Think of the trans in the #6 as an over-built Powerglide. It basically has a high and low range and as Kieth said can be geared to what ever you like. Figureing that out would require more brain power than I have.

If I remember correctly, I think Kieth may have been a tad low on the price of the #6's. I could be wrong but I remember more along the lines of mid 40's for one... ...

If you get it going let us know. That would be on bad ride.

P. S. If your buddie is truly loaded, have him check with Hustler Powerboats in New York I think. Douglas Skater also does exotic motor installs. Both of these guys will do WHATEVER the customer can afford.....

If you can get a crate marine 370 - fully set up for $12,000 - take it. That's a great price

Yes... that would be a steal.

I repowered a single engine boat 3 years ago with a new 270 hp marine Cummins... I shopped pretty hard and fianlly paid 15,400 for the engine and transmission (transmission was about 2400).

A friend repowered over the winter with the same package and cost went up to $17,500.

There is a company in Texas that puts together a marine conversion kit for a truck engine... since you're planning on BOMBing the motors this might be a better option, also much cheaper. You can either buy the whole kit or buy "ala carte" and only get the things you need like the exhaust manifold... .

If you BOMB a new 15,000 engine you will void the warantee.

Good luck on your project. . sounds like fun!
