Was 2 batteries not needed in 89 D250 CTD? From pictures I've seen of 1st gens it looks like only one battery in them. Wondering if theres any way to put another battery under the hood somewhere or if it doesnt need that much CCA. I've been told to just get the biggest battery that can fit in it. I have a walmart everstart maxx in it 1000cca 900cca @32degrees. Whats my options?

My 93 came stock with one Mopar 1100cca battery . It lasted 9 years. . I think you'll be alright with the battery you put in there. . I've seen a few dual battery set ups that look pretty neat but I decided to go with one big Interstate "Workaholic" @950 CCA and it's working fine... ... ... Chuck

It seems like the Stealer is the only place to get a battery that has the 1100 cca that our trucks require, my truck has a 950cca battery in it that was in it when I purchased it, I am still trying to decide if I should cough up the bucks for the oem battery or do a conversion to 2optimas.

Someone posted some nice pictures(maybe Rick Dusch?) of an optima conversion they did putting 2 optimas in the stock location by turning them sideways.

The first gen trucks came with only one battery. I had to replace the battery in my 92 a couple of years back, because I left the dome light on.

Interstate

Get yourself an Interstate group size 31, rated at 950 cca, it actualy puts out far more. Dual batteries in parallel are more trouble than they are worth, just do a search in the second gen section and see for yourself. The large single battery should last 5 to 7 years vs about two years for dual batteries. If you are having trouble finding a suitable battery at the auto parts store, try a heavy truck parts supplier, this type of battery is very commonly used in larger trucks.

You need at least 1025 CCA. I bought the Dodge replacement for $125 last year. It is rated at 1025 CCA and will not crank the engine fast enough below approx. 5* here in Chicago. At 6000' feet in Cheyenne it's fine. I would look for something rated at 1200 CCA or more (IMO) if one exits. I know Mr. Bobs sells one rated at 1700 CCA but it's pricey.

My 1990 always started quickly with one battery, down to about 10 or 15 below zero. I had the biggest battery walleyworld sold in it and it always suprised me how easy that old truck fired up, maybe that's not the norm but it is my experience. JTMcC.
