According to my local dealer's web site:

http://www.longleydodge.com

they have two 2004's with the Cummins 600 in stock.

I may have to stop there at take a test ride.

Note: I have no affiliation with this dealership (other than I've bought 3 vehicles there).

What's the easiest way to tell if it's the new 325/600? Is there a specific digit in the VIN or the price of the Cummins HO option? I've been looking at inventory at local Dodge dealerships to me. From what I've read the HO price is $52xx for the 305 and $53xx for the 325.

Local dealer has a few 04s that I'd like to test drive if they are the new 325/600.

I know how to tell them apart in person with the hood up. . radiator fan shroud mounted to engine is one thing.

But looking at them when they're closed, without looking under

the hood, isn't the 325 equipped with a catalytic converter? The

HOs I looked at (2004s) a couple days ago (dealer closed) didn't have a cat.

**EDIT added. . think I found an easy way.....

I just read the window sticker on the link you posted. . it says right on it "Cummins 600 turbodiesel" where the Cummins option is listed..... ;)

My window sticker does not mention that it is a 600. It just calls it an HO. Price for the engine on my sticker is $5,360. You can also confirm it's a 600 by looking for the cat.

Actually looking at the sticker (on-liner version) is how I determined they were 600's.

Copied from the sticker:

5. 9L Cummins HO Turbo Diesel Engine

$5,360

750-Ampere Maintenance-Free Battery

Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel

As always, pop the hood and look at the Cummins information label on the driver's side of the valve cover - it will show the rated horsepower.

TboneMan, that's exactly what I found. So far none of the local dealerships near me have the new 325/600. I'm going to testdrive an 04 HO 305 and then a HO 325, if I can find them similarly equipped with NV5600s. Probably not going to notice much of a performance difference. I'm more curious as to the comments here regarding the difference in sound as well.

Since I've been driving my '01. 5 ETC so long I'm used to the power. Even though I have 275 injectors in it I expect the new HO to run noticably stronger. When I turn on the EDGE box, I expect mine to be stronger. (Early version of the COMP box).
