I need some expert advise here. I've read & re-read section 5 in the manual (Brakes) and tried to find info from Dave Fritz's site (very informative & complete for some past stuff, but not this time). I can't get a definitive answer as to why 2 of the 4 shoes have 14" x 2. 5" x 3/8" pads and why the other 2 have 12. 3" x 2. 5" x 1/4+" pads. They look different when holding them next to each other, and putting a tape measure to them confirms the difference. The shop manual talks of "primary" shoes going on the front and "secondary" shoes going on the back of each brake, but it never describes the shoes or their dimensions.
Do I install the shoe with the larger, thicker pad on the front and the other smaller, thinner padded shoe on the rear of each brake? I think that's it, but want to make sure.
I've also bought new drums. The old ones have cracks that didn't go away when I had them machined a few months (20K miles) ago. I'm not taking any chances on how deep the cracks go. The rears have squeaked for the last 20K miles when I replaced the original shoes and had the drums turned. I don't want any more squeaking brakes.
