I have a 97 3500 that came into my life with 2005 with 52000 miles on it. Just turned to 90000 reading. Time to change the fuel filter and there is another fuel filter in front of the tank. Its a carquest 86123. I changed it. I need to check the original factory canister . Do i need a filter in it also ? Thanks BOB ALLER

I would keep the stock one and also find out what the micron rating on the Carquest one is. Your engine doesn't need to have as fine filtration as say an 03 or newer CTD. Extra filtration is always good but you can go overkill also. Shadrach

Is the Carquest just a filter? does it have a sediment bowl also. If it does it would trap water and filter fuel. They used to have this type set up in the olde days.
